Beautiful. Elegant, not over-the-top.

I should have you make a wreath for my brother's grave for the holidays. I need to check with the cemetery and see what kind of bullshit rules they have about what can and cannot be put out.

Bullshit rules? What makes them Bullshit. Just ask I can prolly tell you why they have them.

One cemetery I've been to only allows wreaths & blankets made from pine boughs, some kind of red leafy thing, and pinecones. Every single grave has the same damned thing on it.

Another only allows fresh.

Another only artificial.

WTF?

I live near a very, very old cemetery, with all sorts of stones dating back to the mid 1800's. They allow just about anything, though with date restrictions. It's wonderful to drive through and see the variety of rememberances people leave for their loved ones.

I know most new cemeteries only want flat stones so they can just run a big mower with a high blade over everything. I don't care for that, either. But I understand the reason behind that. But I don't understand the restrictions about things left as decorations.

The ones that have wreaths and grave blankets like them because they can just pile 'em up and burn 'em when the season's over.

Fake ones, well, that I don't know.

The rules depend on the means of disposal that the grounds take care of everything. Our cemetary was in the country where we would obtain a fire permit and burn everything, so we'd allow just about anything. A lot of places don't like fresh because people try planting them on the graves, which cause roots to grow under markers, as well as attracting bugs. They also stink terribly if they are left out to long, so the maitnance is higher on fresh. It's rare for a place to not allow artificial unless it's like some high class catholic cemetary and they are trying to maintain a cirtain look. Other decorations, such as benches, are generally not allowed unless you buy them from the cemetary and they are installed professionally.

As far as the upright .vs flat markers. Uprights require more space because they have to have a footing poured under them which would interfear with the burial unless extra space is allowed for. more space means less plots, which means less money. also, as you mentioned, the maitnence cost is quite a lot more for up rights.

A lot of people make the mistake of thinking "I bought this land, I own it, I can do hat I want". Absolutely not true. What you buy is the rights to bury someone there, not the land it's self. The cemetary owns the land, and as with everything it's a business.

Very nice work, my aunt has an actual floral business where she actually creates all of the swag herself and goes and decorates weddings, businesses, houses, etc. She's like the top of the line in what she does and your work looks almost as good as what she does (if not tied obviously). It doesn't seem like a lot, but those little things actually take practice, my aunt has gone through so many workers that CANNOT do floral design. Just plain can't for some reason, no eye for it or something.

I've done one Wedding, and 3 funerals on my own. Normally when I was working at Nino's, I did Gift Basket Design. I actually one an award from Detroit New Paper about my Gift Baskets. The award is still in the department.
