odims_sphere
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Based on World Health Organization data here.Body mass index (BMI) or Quetelet Index is a statistical measure of the weight of a person scaled according to height. It was invented between 1830 and 1850 by the Belgian polymath Adolphe Quetelet during the course of developing "social physics". Body mass index is defined as the individual's body weight divided by the square of their height. The formulas universally used in medicine produce a unit of measure of kg/m2. As a measure, BMI became popular during the early 1980s as obesity started to become a discernible issue in prosperous Western society. BMI provided a simple numeric measure of a person's "fatness" or "thinness", allowing health professionals to discuss over- and under-weight problems more objectively with their patients. However, BMI has become controversial because many people, including physicians, have come to rely on its apparent numerical authority for medical diagnosis, but that was never the BMI's purpose. It is meant to be used as a simple means of classifying sedentary (physically inactive) individuals with an average body composition.[1] For these individuals, the current value settings are as follows: a BMI of 18.5 to 25 may indicate optimal weight; a BMI lower than 18.5 suggests the person is underweight while a number above 25 may indicate the person is overweight; a BMI below 17.5 may indicate the person has anorexia or a related disorder; a number above 30 suggests the person is obese (over 40, morbidly obese). For a given height the BMI is proportional to weight; for example, if body weight increases by 50%, BMI increases by 50%. For a given body shape and given density, the BMI is proportional to height--if all body dimensions increase by 50%, the BMI increases by 50%. This tendency for taller people to have higher BMIs is partially offset by the fact that many taller people are not just "scaled up" short people, but rather tend to have narrower frames in proportion to their height. [2] Calculate your BMI here BTW Mine is 32.3, or in the Obesity range.

GOREgeouslyDecorated
26.6 ... I be over weight, but I kinda knew that already, working on a meal and exercise plan already ;-) however once upon a time I had a BMI of 19, so I think I'd rather be heavy than anorexic like I was B4
GothicRavenGoddess (3)
36.0 hhmm... this thing obviously doesn't count muscle, either, which is what most of my weight is.. my ass is solid, my thighs are solid, and my calves are solid... there are a few other muscles below the waist that are tight as well.. this calculation means nothing to me... i may weight 210 lbs, but most of it is muscle... so yeah... im just a little overweight, not obese, like this thing says.. and if anyone questions it, you can cop a feel.... i don't mind.. Destroit
25.1....just BARELY a smidgen over. Told everyone I was overweight, nobody ever believes me ! GRG is correct, muscle is unaccounted for. I'm guessing if you're more toned and you know you can pinch very little, just take in mind that you're not fat. Unforunately I'm almost weaker than veal now b/c I hardly have time to workout, so my weight is pure blubber. Good thing Christmas Break is coming...I'll dance myself back down to my weight. Gehhh...I have gained alot, I'm 25.1 now and I used to be 19.8 less than a year ago...oh well. There's worse things in the world to fret about, right? For those of you who REALLY want to know (i.e. taking your muscle mass into consideration), if you can grab your tummy and physically pinch more than an inch you're technically overweight. I'm sure if you're able to grab 2-3 or more...welllll then that probably would be classfied as obese. (Keep in mind that if you can grab, unless you just dropped a bunch of weight, it probably isn't skin either. That's the other excuse other people always use when I tell them that, the "it's just skin") I'm 165 lbs right now, I was 130, I should try to get down to 125. Anything under that is considered "under weight". I know...I know most people will say I'm too thin but I'm just weird when it comes that sort of thing, I usually aire on the side of thin. When I was really really overweight my BMI was 35 though, and I'm 5' 8" inches and was 210 sooooo I've come damn far from that at least, I'd like to think anyway. GothicRavenGoddess (3)
that tummy thing... yeah, i can pinch a lot, but like i was saying above, from the waist down, is where my muscle is... lol just ask anyone who has had the pleasure of wrapping a hand around one of my butt cheeks..lol yeah.... hey! 130-135 is what i'm supose to weigh for my height and bone structure.. i think im gonna shoot for 150, first, tho..lol

Head Wreck
22.3 still got 7 lbs of fat to loose by my guestimates but i'm still gaining muscle mass in chest back and biceps (triceps and lower ars are fine oddly enough, i even have definition of the muscle on the inside of the wrist ). compared to when i was in michigan it was 26.8 i'm pleased considering i had bugger all muscle mass. back injuriews are what i fear the most and its why i am building the muscle there to protect against it (as well as rajayogic excercises to maintain its stretchy bendyness) collage/uni BMI for me was 16.6 odly enough scary. i was 8 stone 7 lbs on average UNHEALTHY!!!!
