A person's status as "asshole" or "not asshole" has squat to do with them being either right or wrong about a topic.

True. But in his case I think he's an asshole AND he's often wrong . He has no credibility except as a muckraker and someone who can be counted on say things in the worst possible way. In my opinion he has no value as a "journalist" or whatever he's supposed to be on air.

I'd just like to clarify that I'm not offend by being wished whatever holiday greeting you care to. I'm just kinda fed up with what they've been turned into.

Aw but see?

thats the point exactly Bro. When I celebrate Christmas in any way and focus on any person, its never anywhere remotely near "what its been turned into"..... never at all.

We make Christmas, or we get made.

all in elementry school

i always replied with an i didnt belive in it.... not referring to the god part at all

i never wanted to align myself with the country

i see the pc so much every day, and im seeing how its beeing pushed on our children. its not merry christmas because not everyone celebrates it so its happy holidays or seasons greatings because of the 2 people a month i might offend by it, i cant tell the preschoolers that come in to sit indian style, they look at me like ive got something loose, now its criss cross apple sauce because its less offensive to native americans (hey now what about criss cross tho?), and forget about telling the little girls to sit like ladys (there like wtf is that) now i have to tell them to sit like a princess because the preschools dont teach ettiquett, not in the terms that you cross your legs, pull your dress down or sit up straight, now they teach them to be like princesses (you know the cleavage bareing, size 2, whoreish looking girls on the disney channel) speaking of the ladies of the night, appearantly santas offending them now to. yelling out the big belly laughes and the ho ho hos. its not pc because the prostitutes (not ho's prostitutes) are offended.

its just so rediculous

I think every holiday in the US has been turned into a consumerist pile of crap.

Not quite. Thanks-alot (also known as Thanksgiving) is not a consumerist pile of crap. Mostly because pilgrims aren't really a marketable decoration.

Screw that, I hate this holiday and anything related to it. I hate most holidays (due to the calender being so inaccurate) however THIS is the king of all holidays, which starts the day after Halloween pretty much and doesn't stop till 2 weeks after NYE (the widely observed one). I used to love the holiday, I even have white christmas lights (due to lack of another name) up in my room year round, I like the way snow looks, etc... I hate this holiday for many reasons which I will now list for you.

1. the religious aspect:

A. It takes the original pagan holiday "Yule" and turns it into something the catholic/christian church finds acceptable.

B. The holiday seems to be more about Santa Claus than about the birth of the deity of the religion that bastardized it in the first place.

C. It lies to children, I hate liars (although it does give us a great piece of ammunition when people say god exists equating him to Santa).

D. It's just another way for them to rub their religious beliefs in your face. Also any wiccans/witches/pagans here that say merry christmas what is wrong with you? Stand by your religious beliefs and say happy yule because I'd at least rather like to hear that out of you than what has been pounded into your skull.

2. the corporate aspect:

A. The holiday does nothing anymore but encourage you to shop and buy buy buy and spend every dime you have on people who won't appreciate it or remember what you got them (unless it's REALLY good). These days I ask for nothing, and when they won't comply (they seriously won't comply) I ask for money because at least then I can use it for something I really want then get something I'll hate and find fault with. They still get nothing, and maybe one day they'll stop giving and I can be happy.

B. The spirit of giving is crap, what are you a communist? You give to charity, you give because you're told to, hell you even give because you HAVE to in taxes. No one saves any money and therefore everyone goes broke. People go into debt over this holiday and THAT ruins lives, just so they seem like good friends/relatives or to keep up with the Joneses.

C. I don't need a stupid mandatory gift giving holiday to show someone I care about them. If I care I'll buy them dinner or get them something at random if and when I think of it. The people I care about already know I care about them and that's what counts most.

So to sum it all up, not everyone believes what you believe, so stop shoving it in everyones face because it's all just a bunch of humbug.

(I will say however it's pretty awesome that I get the Grinch's theme song as my ring tone on my friend's phone, that was neat).

I like the outline format, scary guy. That's new for you. Very professional.

And, interestingly, half of what you said you don't like about Christmas is what Christians don't like about Christmas. I, as a Catholic, wish that corporate America would stop using one of my holiest days of the year as an opportunity to sell more freaking Elmo dolls. It's not Christmas' fault that it got hijacked.

And we're supposed to stop saying Merry Christmas because it offends people? Has anyone on this board actually been offended when they were greeted with Merry Christmas? No? Okay, well, have you ever met anyone who was offended by 'merry Christmas'? I mean, who is this mysterious person? And why do their delicate feelings matter so much to everyone else? I have a sneaking suspicion that in twenty years we'll realize that we stripped our words of meaning to protect the feelings of someone who never even existed.

NOWHERE in the US Constitution does it say anything about protecting American Citizens from "being offended". PERIOD. you have no legal right to stand on to complain about being offended. Period. So get over it. If i want to walk around singing Christmas carols on Yom Kippur I can and if you get offended, thats not my problem. If you want to run around and start telling people you celebrate anti-fat day and all the chubbies out there should go on a diet, hey- If it offends my fat ass thats my problem not yours. There are bigger problems in life than whether or not someone offends your poor lil feelings. seriously people, get over yourselves.

I like Thanksgiving. I like being grateful for what I have and giving some of what I got to others. As for Christmas, if Christians don't like what it's turned into, they should object to corporate America for hijacking it. I bet you'll find many don't have the guts to tell their children no more presents.

I think you're wrong about their being no one who's offended. Maybe offended is the wrong word. How about pissed? Pissed that since the vast majority of people celebrate Christmas, people just assume everyone does. As I've said before. I think this is just laziness on people's part. They don't want to actually stop and think about what they say. I think the words "political correctness" are inaccurate and stupid and they've been turned into a phrase to ridicule people who have the audacity to make you actually think before you open your fucking mouth. I'm not talking about garbage men who want to be called sanitation engineers nor that kind of pettiness. That IS bullshit. I'm perfectly willing to ignore things that I don't like or agree with, on a personal level. It's when it 's at a societal level and can't be escaped or ignored that I take issue.
