Scary Guy
This shit again :( Every year, I suffer. I also know none of you give a shit except those that share my plight. I go to work and I get nothing but an ear full of holiday cheer from the radio. I get Santa (and the lesser elder god Jesus) shoved in my face left and right. The commercials on TV are all catered toward this horrible holiday. I've got Christmas tunes stuck in my head and I HATE CHRISTMAS! They're catchy though which is why they've lasted this long. All the brainwashing that goes on. Here's a video for you, since it's become one of my favorite holiday tunes. TomCat
Whether you believe or don't believe, Christmas is a holiday that came here with the Pilgrims. You know, the people that were the ones who established our society here in North America. My ancestors as well as many of yours paved the curvy and tumultuous road to the “current commercialization” of Christmas in blood, sweat, and tears. I choose to believe what I want to, and I don't dog anyone else for believing what he or she chooses to believe. Christian faith, principles, and beliefs are what drove those that set up the freedoms that WE all currently enjoy. The mindset of humanity, compassion, humility, and honesty (no matter how abused and twisted all the "sorts of religious factions" have made them for their own gain notwithstanding) are for, and will always be for the betterment of mankind. I'm a Christian, and I'm proud of that fact. Not wanting to dive into a never-ending argument of a theological nature, I will say this: I have yet to see a Pagan, Buddhist, Muslim, Jewish, Mormon, Scientologist, or atheist turn down a Christmas Bonus or refuse to take a Christmas Day off with pay because they "don't believe in Jesus." Put that into your brain. Digest that hypocrisy and talk to me about it some other time. This is a time of year for those of my "ilk" to reflect and celebrate HOW WE CHOOSE. You won't see me burning any effigies at your next Ramadan, bitching about your jewelry shop closing early on the Sabbath, or catch me banging pots at your next drumming circle to "protest." Freedom of religion for all and freedom of speech for all.. All the time or not at all. Just don't try to “rain on my parade,” or I will tell you to stuff a sock in it. OK? Great, thanks! To all: Merry Christmas (even if this just means that you and yours have a safe, happy, peaceful day, then I am happy for you). If you, however are going to use this day as a protest against those that do believe, look in the mirror, take a deep breath, and say STFU for me, since I'll be busy having a safe, happy, peaceful day of love, joy, and giving with mine. I choose to believe what I want to, and I don't dog anyone else for believing what he or she chooses to believe. Um er, sorry Tomcat but here's a little background on the holiday as it played out in our country..... The pilgrims, English separatists that came to America in 1620, were even more orthodox in their Puritan beliefs than Cromwell. As a result, Christmas was not a holiday in early America. From 1659 to 1681, the celebration of Christmas was actually outlawed in Boston. Anyone exhibiting the Christmas spirit was fined five shillings. By contrast, in the Jamestown settlement, Captain John Smith reported that Christmas was enjoyed by all and passed without incident. After the American Revolution, English customs fell out of favor, including Christmas. In fact, Congress was in session on December 25, 1789, the first Christmas under America’s new constitution. Christmas wasn’t declared a federal holiday until June 26, 1870. It wasn’t until the 19th century that Americans began to embrace Christmas. Americans re-invented Christmas, and changed it from a raucous carnival holiday into a family-centered day of peace and nostalgia. It's been recorded that Christmas was actually a more dangerous holiday in England due to alcohol consumption which is the main reason our pilgrams rejected it. It had nothing to do with what it (as many think) stands for today. Christmas History.
Brenda Starrr
Hey, why don't we all just quit bitching about it? Say whatEVER greeting you want and just back off from those who do?? It's no wonder my Dad hated Christmastime.

jynxxxedangel
*runs about decorating every available surface with all the tackiest, gaudiest holiday shit I can find* Anyone who doesn't enjoy a pagan solstice holiday disguised as a Christian one can SUCK WIND! It's because of the Christians' insistent efforts to stamp out our beliefs, and their feeble attempts to cover them over with their own, that we were graced with a few days off from work-- conveniently coinciding with our pagan festivities.. One of the few commonly-celebrated holidays of the year that actually stays true to the Julian calendar..Let 'em all think it's about the Christ. We know what it's all REALLY about. I'm not to be held accountable for all the other actions of "Christians" in the previous 2007 years (especially the putzes who brought us the Spanish Inquisition) and I sure don't have a lot of say over the other billion or so running around the earth now. I just know, I'm more of a Roman CathoZen Buddhijew Islamaritan Reformist Environmental Scientist. Could someone please pass me a Guinness now? Scary Guy
this is the person who went of in a strop and came back with a joke religion? I didn't go off in a strop, I was kicked the fuck out (kind of). Also my religion is about as much of a joke as Christianity is, among others. That's because YOU DON'T HAVE TO! Christianity (of whatever form) is the largest religion on the planet. Oh boo hoo, I'm oppressing you. You don't want to hear it? Well I don't want to hear all this x-mas music pouring out of the radio, see the holiday specials on TV, or even participate in the mandatory family gathering. Sure it's a wonderful life... if you buy into all the pomp and circumstance. As for me the day after Halloween (which I also don't really celebrate, it just so happens to fall on "every day") I'm getting "Merry Christmas, go buy gifts so your family and friends will love you" shoved down my throat. *runs about decorating every available surface with all the tackiest, gaudiest holiday shit I can find* Anyone who doesn't enjoy a pagan solstice holiday disguised as a Christian one can SUCK WIND! You THINK you know but you don't. Because the majority is right and we're fools to question them. So if it's all about the birth of a false profit, then so be it. That's EXACTLY why I left earlier this year (well that and the moderation forced my hand). At least you have it part right though. Fuck the commercialism. It's this reason that guy died at that walmart the day after Thanksgiving (don't even get me started on that holiday). Yeah I'm all about the religious folk having their say, however I want my say too damnit. I shove nothing. Radio stations can be changed, and as much of a hastle as it probably is, patronize places that won't play the seasonal music you are so offended by. It's your right, just as it is your right to bith about it, and it is my right to say what I just said. GOD bless America for these freedoms, those who fought for it, their families left behind, and may something fill in the blank with whatever you have that "guides you" bring peace and harmony to the world. Not a bunch of whining and bitching. What does that get you? A rep as a whiner. No, no you don't. You THINK you know but you don't. Because the majority is right and we're fools to question them. So if it's all about the birth of a false profit, then so be it. Yes I hate Christmas, because it brings about pain and suffering on a global scale. Suicide rates skyrocket at this time of the year for a reason. Guess what? The pain and suffering have always existed. Well before organized religions there were primates dying of disease, war, and pestilence. I feel that having something to hope for, is sure better than bitching about what makes others feel happy Oh just because he's not allowed to be himself that means I can't be myself? That's EXACTLY why I left earlier this year (well that and the moderation forced my hand). Be who you gotta be. Be it wherever you can. Don't bitch about what others do that makes them happy. At least you have it part right though. Fuck the commercialism. It's this reason that guy died at that walmart the day after Thanksgiving (don't even get me started on that holiday).t Commercialism does suck, the fact that those darnded caucasion folks from Europe fucked the native Americans over for THIS land we live insucks. I cannot change the past, but I sure as hell can avoid what I don't wanna deal with just as easily as the next guy can. But this HISTORY we know much of (as much as we are allowed to know, that is) allows you to speak freely today. Enjoy it while you can.
