TomCat
BTW, the poor worker that dies at that Walmart, what religion (if any) were the people that trampled him to death? Perhaps we'll never know, but I think that you'd be amazed at what kinds of non religious types like a sale as much as the next guy...most people doing that crazy Black Friday shopping are NOT buying presents for under a tree, to place near a Menora, or to give to some dashiki wearing lil tyke. It's greedy fucks trying to buy themselves something that they want.
bean
Stupid me started this stupid fucking thread because my boss is a tumbling dick weed. My poor choice in words led to the flaming bag of shit that is this thread. I wish I could work on Christmas, but I can't. The fucking building is locked. When I have my own practice, I'm going to work on Christmas. I could give two fucks about Christmas. When people say Merry Christmas to me, I respond by saying "Happy Hannukah." Why? I'm not Christian. My husband is Jewish, and I celebrate his holidays with him. People need to realize that there are people who don't celebrate Christmas. Die thread, die. Fuck. Its not done to be insulting, its done because its the very nature of the holiday to wish someone happiness.

TomCat
I can see where there is a frustration here I can even understand why. Happy Hannukah, Merry Christmas, Enjoy the Solstice or even a Good Morning. They're sayings/greetings. So consider it like saying "Good day" to someone. You may be having the worst day ever, they wouldn't know it. To spat in someone's face, for extending a greeting to them that is sincere, is, well, kind of rude. I have my entire life been puzzled by what makes one think that others don't have feelings, I ALWAYS try to put myself out there, in someone else's shoes to see what I can learn from them, about them. Problem is, our society really sucks at the reciprication of common courtesy. And that is sad.
the eternal
Damn you all Ok, I'm very good at thread killing. I think it has something to do with my ability to talk for several pages and so people are sick of reading, and then just start skimming, and then just say fuck it and then start scrolling, and finally give up and move on to a new thread. Whatever the reason, it is my Chrismanukkwanzaan wish for this thread to die. It was played out before I even jumped in a year ago. Let me summarize: Christmas is great Christmas is awful Christmas cheer is great. Christmas is nothing but a depressive soul-sucking nightmare spiral where only the brave dare to tread and the weak meet their untimely demise in a fate worse than hearing "Christmas in your eyes" by Gloria Estefan for 24 hours while the life is gradually squeezed out of you by a medieval iron maiden. Talking about ye old days, Christmas has been the bedrock of our country. Except that it wasn't. Rather it was a heinous perversion until the 19th century when the frontiersman needed something to brighten their lives (Seriously, did you ever play Oregon Trail. Ah Oregon Trail. My first real thinking game, on the good old Apple IIC. Except that Grandma always died in week one, the kids ate way too much fucking food, and somehow I was the one that always ended up with dysentery) Anyway life sucked back then and Christmas gave people hope. Not only that, but it's a day that we can remember our lord. Except it's not everyone's lord. But it's a day for some of us to celebrate HIM anyway. No it isn't. It's just a vast commercial conspiracy that started out with a yule log, and somehow ended with a black Barack Obama "Up with change" butt plug under my tree Well, I'm going to wish you a Merry Christmas over and over again. Well, I'm going to wish you a happy day in hell. I'm rubber. You're glue. Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelt of Elderberries. There. Tired yet? Still reading? Wall Drug. Up ahead. On your right. Next post thirty miles. Nothing to see here. Move along.

Unfortunately, the freedom of speech does cover those who don't have anything positive to say. And as much as it sucks, those of us who are smart enough to let stupidity roll off of our backs will consistently rise above. Someone falls in front of me, I put my hand out to help them up. SaGa
2. the corporate aspect: A. The holiday does nothing anymore but encourage you to shop and buy buy buy and spend every dime you have on people who won't appreciate it or remember what you got them (unless it's REALLY good). These days I ask for nothing, and when they won't comply (they seriously won't comply) I ask for money because at least then I can use it for something I really want then get something I'll hate and find fault with. They still get nothing, and maybe one day they'll stop giving and I can be happy. B. The spirit of giving is crap, what are you a communist? You give to charity, you give because you're told to, hell you even give because you HAVE to in taxes. No one saves any money and therefore everyone goes broke. People go into debt over this holiday and THAT ruins lives, just so they seem like good friends/relatives or to keep up with the Joneses. C. I don't need a stupid mandatory gift giving holiday to show someone I care about them. If I care I'll buy them dinner or get them something at random if and when I think of it. The people I care about already know I care about them and that's what counts most. the real shitty part is, our economy has calculated christmas into it. weak christmas means more job looses and other shit. these companies are treating this like a harvest season for consumers. and this year, that harvest season isnt going to be that big. expect the report on wallstreet on the results on this one. Goth Brooks
The spirit of giving is crap, what are you a communist? there's a big difference between giving a gift out of selflessness, and giving through government mandate. as for your being insulted by someone saying merry christmas, you have issues. if someone saying they hope you're happy insults you, i'd suggest therapy. Destroit
as for your being insulted by someone saying merry christmas, you have issues. Never heard a truer statement, in all my years the only people that I've ever met (in my experience) that are offended by "Merry Christmas" have always been people that are insecure about what they DON'T believe in...if you catch my drift. Constantly trying to defend it...it's like, you don't believe in anything, what the fuck are you trying to defend? Nothing? You're trying to defend something that you not only can't prove is correct...but that thing is NOTHING? I don't understand why people are so passionate about defending the absence of anything...sounds like a new religion to me since it's gotten as out of hand as it has. Seems a bit childish to me is all. Just because people don't agree with you and want to follow you ways of saying a very facist "Happy Holidays"? It's just as bad as bible thumpers trying to push their shit on you. Like I said, just my two cents. MERRY CHRISTMAS!

It's a popular way to get what you want online, besides PROVE to me it was a hoarde of massed Christians, without ANY athiests, or other faiths involved in the trampling, and this BS weak ass excuse for a reason may hold some water. But you can't. Saying this is a lot like blaming the Poles for getting invaded by Germany. That wasn't their fault, or was it?? I hate that everything is closed on Christmas/eve. Couldn't find a 24 restaurant open to save my life. I think this year I'm going to Dearborn for the holidays. Try Cedarland Garden, They have the best fatoush tawook. You don't get it obviously, that's more of a half joke than an argument against. Yeah I do have issues, with religion. If someone says they hope I'm happy it doesn't insult me, unless it's someone wishing me a "happy holiday" like I celebrate anything this time of year, which I don't. Yes, even "happy holidays" pisses me off. Although it is true that absence of proof is not proof of absence, that's no reason to be illogical about things and start having imaginary friends. Wikipedia is input and changes daily. Everyone have a great day, everyday So if a godless immoral atheist writes it it makes it less true? It's edited by THE MASSES and scrutinized over by THE MASSES. You don't like something or think it's wrong, you edit it and cite your reasons why. It's not just done by one author but the internet community (or at least those with an interest) and is generally more accurate than most history books because of that. The masses include ALL FAITHS whether you (or I) like it or not.

Tacohitts
Besides people shoving religious retoric down my throat, the one thing and only one thing that pisses me off is when people will say" well god decides on how you should be treated"or " your only purpose in life is to be hated for no reason, and treated like shit, and you must accept it" to me thats all bullshit in my book. the last idiot that said that got shoved into a wall, told them get the f%$$ away from me,and don't come within a 100' of me or they will be dealt with harshly, to me when anyone says this bs,or believes it,needs to rot off the face of the earth. and by the way anyone that say's happy holidays to me I consider respectful, and I wish the same for them.
