GOREgeouslyDecorated
so as some of you may have noticed that I have put on quite a bit of weight this past year, so I was thinking.... the healthiest I ever felt in my life was when I was a raw foodist... I got to eat all day every day and I LOVED all the yummy fruits, veggies, and the organic soy milk.... so I was thinking about going down that road again.... I was thinking about starting out slowly for obvious reasons... like cutting out meat and switching to organic munchies and soy milk... then cut out fish and chicken... then cut out cooked food... not only did I loose weight when I was doing the raw food thing, but that was the healthiest I had EVER felt in my life! Who else thinks that this is a good idea?? Yay or Nay??
CandyQuackenbush
Nay. Meat = good. If you are going to cut out meat, just do red meat. Chicken is the best thing you can eat if you want to go healthy. Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast, along with your fresh veggies is a great meal. I prefer to grill up my chicken breast on my electric grill, and it does a great job. Or you can always go on the sushi diet, that works too. Head Wreck
red meat is bad for you white meat and oily fish is good for you. were not evolved for a vegitarian diet despite what the vegies and vegans say, if we were the apendix would be a complete organ not a ticking timebomb of what remains of one excluded by evolution

Our bodies are meant to take meat, not a lot (like a palm sized amount daily 3 - 6 oz. at most) but it's definately necessary. AND scientists did a study on men living in Iceland (going back to what HW said) and found out they have a DRASTICALLY longer life span than men living elsewhere in the world. After tons of research into the matter, scientists found out that people living in Iceland (I don't know why they had to find this out, seems pretty self explanitory) eat a whole lot of fish, and fish in cold climates are usually way more rich in omega fatty acids. SO....if you're really bent on eating a raw diet, do the sushi, especially stuff with tuna. It's raw and you're getting in essential healthy meat with the best type of lipids nature can supply! Onyx
I think raw foods with the oily fish included would be wonderful for our bodies. I think I'd need a personal chef to follow me around to stick to it all the time though. It's tough to stick with. Also it's hard to be social when you eat like that. People get offended when you won't eat with them and it's difficult to find an all-raw diet eating out too. With that said though, the more raw fruits and veggies you add into your diet, the better your health will be. These people had amazing effects. http://www.rawfor30days.com/
Gaf The Horse With Tears
Humans have evolved to eat red meat. We have 5 types of taste buds. Sweet, Sour, Bitter, Salty and Umami. Unami is the taste key to the topic. What makes meat and cheese taste good? Unami. Where do you find Unami? Meat and cheese. Of all types. The consumption of red meat is what lead to humans having these large brains. There is nothing else with enough protien to help us evolve this large complex paper weight we think with. Red meat becomes a problem when people eat too much of it. A half pound burger is too much unless that is all the red meat you are eating that day. You want to feel healthy? Eat like a caveman. Which means, eat raw fruits, nuts, veggies and the like. Basically, if you can just walk out, grab it and eat it without becoming sick or dead... eat that. You would have to cut out all grains and beans. Grains and beans are not good for you raw... some can kill you (soy beans) if not processed properly. Look up the Paloelithic diet.... it's a good thing.

Nienna
I eat meat 3-4 times a week and then do something fiber and protein rich like beans or hummus on the off days. Works for me.

Fierce Critter
I agree with those who have said if you can do all raw with some oily fish or small amounts of white meat or red meat, that'd be better. I may be fat, but I know what it is to eat healthy. I would love to get more into this type of eating - but I am a terrible child when it comes to veggies, there are not many I actually like, and the ones I do I mostly like cooked. Steamed, yes, not gooped in cheesy sauces or the like. But there's at least gotta be some kind of butter-tasting spread on there and some salt. I envy people who really dig on veggies. I know quite a few people who have to "make it a point to eat meat once or twice a week" and the whole idea is totally alien to me.
littlepinkkitty
I love raw veggies! I eat tons of salads. I have issues with raw fish and meat but i do eat lots of cooked meat. I don't eat it fried though. Its good to eat lots of of raw fruits and veggies. They give you energy. I love the taste of them. I would rather have a carrot or celery stick then a dorito. So i guess i say yay and nay because i love lamb chops but i still love my veggies.
jadnifer
I do love my raw fruits and veggies but I could never give up meat completely. It would probably be healthy for me to cut down on it a little bit. So I guess that im yay and nay
Gaf The Horse With Tears
So farking weird... I was listening to the radio yesterday ont he way to work.. and this came up... There is some new study out.. that says that cooking food does not, as we have always been taught, remove most of the nutrients. Infact, in some cases cooking the veggies actually does something that to them so you get more than if you ate them raw....

Fermented soy beans, on the other hand...are edible, in spite of being one of THE foulest, nastiest tasting foods I have ever had the displeasure to sample. I'll stick with spiced, fermented cabbage instead.

Gaf The Horse With Tears
I wont eat soy, in any form. Actually, the only form of bean I ever eat is re-fried pinto beans when I am having a burrito and I make a 5 bean chili once a year. OK, so the wife makes me eat green beans sometimes... like at least once a week. Soy is a really scary one. Hype from both sides of the poison/not poison argument really clouds things. There are huge health risks involved when eating soy products, but only if you eat them in large amounts. The peoples of the east who have soy as a major staple don't eat a whole meal of soy. They don't get the major side affects. People who eat whole soy burgers and drink glasses of soy milk with meals... they run major risks of cancer, goiters, and failing internal organs. Cook a bean one way and it's food. Cook it another and it's Ricin. (yes, I know thats really the castor bean)

Homicidalheathen
If you can, do. I tried and it was too hard for me. I couldn't eat out that much, hell it was harder than being total vegan. Go for it!
