Uhmmm....new?

*plink* :blink:

Skinny Puppy has been around for maybe 25ish years....how is that new?

On top of that, they're probably more heard of now than ever before and actually have recently been getting their shit on the radio without actually really selling out. Before they mostly had a massive underground movement, but IN the underground scene for their genre of music they were generally the top band, and are constantly changing without being bought out by any huge label.

I don't see them disappearing until Ogre dies or just gets too damn old :laugh: He's already 45 so he's getting up there.

SORRY...bout the thread jack. Just had to inform and educate.

I know they're not new, however their time in the spotlight is. This is the human race people, popularity has a short attention span.

Well...no see they've been in the spotlight for 25 years :laugh: That's the point. If you are into that genre of music, you know who Skinny Puppy is and most likely know them well. If I went to CC right now (well not sure with all the new kids, but let's say maybe even five years ago before the scene started to totally fall apart) I'd be hard pressed to find anyone in that club that doesn't know who they are, never the less listens to them avidly.

They've been my favorite band solidly since I was around 15, I discovered them through other goth people in Royal Oak. Since goth/industrial folk generally aren't mainstream like MTV Nine Inch Nails crap (who actually accredited his entire career to Skinny Puppy saying that he would have never wrote Pretty Hate Machine had he not been listening to Skinny Puppy, this was back in 1989-ish maybe?) Skinny Puppy would be considered to have always been in the spotlight underground, which underground is really the only kind of music that matters to me, and many others in the "scene", that isn't silly stuff (like stupid pop/rap shit that gets stuck in your head, or that I am forced to like since I only have friends that are normies)

Unless of course I'm really drunk and want to hear The Cha Cha Slide. My God that's a hoot mixed with tequilla! Same goes with JT's Sexy Back, but don't tell no one :whistle::wink:

Now if by spotlight you mean they aren't mainstream to the point that they've sold out to MTV and only care about what's going to shock the preteens next as opposed to the actual music such as Marilyn Manson did...then yes, in that case, you would be correct.

Proof that Manson just follows the kids' trends: Emo happens. What does Manson do? Come out with something that has the line "Don't break my heart or I'll break your heart-shaped glasses". Not sure if I quoted that correctly, but you get the gist of it. That whole line = EMO. Basically following the trends whereas Skinny Puppy has always been followed by the trends and have set said trends in the past...

I do like alot of Manson's older stuff though, I'd go see him if I didn't have to pay for the ticket, also because I've heard he puts on one helluva stage show. But then again, so does Ogre.

I want to know why this thread became a skinny puppy is amazing (which ok ya they are) and omg manson sucks blah blah blah, all this was asking is whose going to his show...go and start a thread in music discussion if you hate him so much

*blush*

My bad...I guess I get a little out of hand sometimes.

At first I was just trying to explain to KBK that SP definately is not new and has always been in the spotlight. From there my small ADD mind began to take a dangerous pilgrimage away from the original topic :laugh: I apologize for any inconvenience my frontal lobe may have caused...

Wait...Twiggy is back in MM?

Holy shit! :shock:

When the hell did this happen? Wasn't he in A Perfect Circle for a minute?

Yes, he was in APC and then he joined NIN for the tour. Jeordie White (Twiggy) was the only reason I went to see NIN when they came here, both at JLA and at Pine Knob... I mean DTE.

They just announced that he is joining back up with MM starting this month on the tour. Super jealous of BW and Eternal now!!!!!

He changed the line-up specially for Detroit! So glad he didn't play mostly new album sht. But the guards were stupid dicks. I watched one bash a drunk girls' head twice on the way out the wrong door to the smokers area. He just didn't want to let her out.

<slight threadjack>

Sooo . How was it? He was here on Saturday but tickets were sold out. I most likely wouldn't have gone b/c I would have had to go alone. I even missed a concert in September b/c no one would go with.

But see, now you are on DGN and it will be much easier to find people to go to concerts and events with. You have a whole new pool of folks to canvas! YAY!!!

</slight threadjack>

I would have loved to have gone, especially to see Twiggy :drool One day I will have money again for such things as concerts. One day.

You know those times when you hate a band on the radio, and then you see them in concert, and NEED to go home and listen to them...

This wasn't it.

BUT, he put on a great show. Even from a non-musical standpoint. Lots of set changes, clothing changes, lighting effects that had a new gimmick for each song. So, it made it fun to watch.

And he had a lot of energy.

Apparently, his voice would go out from time to time during the show (according to BW) but then it would roar right back.

I didn't notice since I tuned out his voice after the second song.

It was great to see Bean so happy! And they really put in a full effort.

The opener band sucked, I think, so everyone wold get even more excited when Manson would explode in and tear things up.
