What Did You Get/give For Christmas?

Recommended Posts

I got the best holiday presents ever, I have the piece of mind that those I love are safe, and doing as well as could be.

I didn't get world peace this year, but I'll hope for next year (I do this every year). For me the most important things in my life cannot be bought or put on credit, the smiles I get from friends and family are all genuine and caring. That to me is priceless. :)

You guys are definitely a part of the "friends and family" group. Thanks again DGN. I honestly don't feel I can thank you enough. :)

AND thanks Troy, for everything :)

And yet another example of why we love, adore and worship our Hunhee. You so rock!

And Troy most definitely ROCKS!

This was a depressing year for gift-giving 'cos I had so little to work with... but I did manage the following:

MaMa: Victoria's Secret smelly stuff (Amber Romance)

Brother: Book, "Mad Kings & Queens"

Sister in law: Victoria's Secret pass card holder and a matching beaded neckchain I made for it (she's an investigator for DTE so she can have a little bling on her while she's running around doing PI stuff)

Nephew#1: Family Guy cast as "Star Wars" t-shirt and a can of Stewie's Brain Erase Elixir

Niece#1: Book, "The Little Black Book of Style" packed in a silver Victoria's Secret tote bag

Niece #2: Cameo skeleton belt buckle and a can of Emily the Strange Brew

Nephew #2: Klutz book, "How to Build Pirate Ships" (with cool building cards)

Cousin's little girl: Klutz book of paperdolls

Auntie: Victoria's Secret smelly stuff (Vanilla Lace)

Josh: Dragonfly Betty Page club shirt; two Escher print ties.

I got several gifts but mostly stuff I didn't like & had no use for. So then I felt guilty for feeling that way. But I did get two things that really, really made me happy:

Painting/collage by Niece #2 (when a 15 yr old likes you enough to create something like that just for you, it's really something special. Plus the painting is wicked sweet!)

Sirius Radio receiver from Josh... 'cos I really wasn't expecting it.

One good thing: I got most of the key family members to agree that, instead of spending shitloads of loot on stuff no one needs, next year we should all chip in and buy a water buffalo or somthing through Heifer International. So that was a good thing.

I got an awesome Ibanez hollow body guitar, which Steven promptly busted my high-e string. I can never have cool toys.....

But, I also had Marc, Steven, Medea and her man, and our friend, Sam here for dinner (along with my kids). We played "Totally 80's Trivial Pursuit" and laughed our asses off. You all missed out.

I got a long sleeved shirt.

What I gave was a $50 gift card for Best Buy to my sister and her bf.

$50 gift card to Meijer to my little brother since he and his gf had a baby girl in August. I am sure they could use that for baby supplies and groceries.

Got my niece, my sisters daughter, a portable karoake system with a Hannah Montana CD to go with it. She is so adorable and we think is going to be a singer of some sort someday. Below is a photo with her Christmas gift.

that dang E string...its a conspiracy to keep us from running off togethor!!!

I think Jeff secretly filed it down a bit before I got there just knowing that I would have to touch your guitar....and now he gets to ride in on the white horse and replace that string!!! Oh I've seen this kind of thing before Repunzal, oh yes I have. You tell Jeff that it's on now!

It would have been nice to have a cute brunette under my tree this morning. If I had a tree.

Scratch that. It would have been VERY nice to have said brunette snuggling in my bed with me. You know which one I'm talking about, right? ;)

Bro your cool but I hardly know you....

That's awesome! My family does something like this every year - our church has families that you can 'adopt' so we do that and get presents for them instead of eachother. If I may make a suggestion...we discovered that not exchanging presents is sort of boring so every year we have a different 'theme'. Like this year we did the white elephant gift exchange. I gave an anvil. Seriously, that thing weighs like a hundred pounds. I got this little man that makes farting noises. FUN!

And last year, we brought paints and art supplies and we each had to paint a portrait of someone else in the family. Also very fun. I still have the picture of me painted by my sister. I look like a whore painted by Salvador Dali. Lovely.

fruit baskets rock. they contain pineapple often

Oh my god! You are SO right! They might not have these on the other side of the pond, but there are these things called 'edible arrangements' and it's like chocolate covered pineapple and strawberries all made to look like a bouquet of flowers. Yeah, you heard me right, flowers you can EAT!! Yum!!

I got to spend a great amount of time with family and very good friends. It was looking like for the longest I woudln't have even been able to come home before Germany, so even though I didn't get much in terms of material Items, those who know me know I couldn't care less about that stuff. Getting to see some faces before I take off outta here for years has been what I could ask for.

    • I am currently floored.   FedEx did a massive 6 box delivery to the wrong address.  I had an autoship order scheduled to arrive before this past weekend.  Nothing showed up.  I contacted the order site and they had a link for the order...a photo of all my boxes thrown in the snow and up the sidewalk of a residence that was not mine.   You would think that at some point, the driver would have looked at the delivery address after they kept throwing box upon box at this location with no shelter from the elements.  They didn't even knock on the door to inform the residents that massive 65+ pound boxes were left all over their walkway.  Nope.  Just dumped them, took a photo as they were walking away and left.   I wonder what the person who found all of those misdelivered boxes must have been thinking when they saw them.  Maybe they kept everything to use, distribute or sell.  No idea.  No claim was filed on that end as of yet.   Fortunately for me, one of the sites that I ordered from, replaced everything at no extra cost.   Unfortunately, now I'm concerned for the other items yet to be delivered.   Needless to say, I'll be watching my notifications like a hawk.

    • ~~~~~ Yeah, thank you for the check-in.   Happy to say it was all a misunderstanding.  But she pulled out her "ghetto" and that's when things went South.  I get very professional minded when I enter into situations like that because when someone starts bring the court into conversations, I'm in court 2 times a year, every year, so don't go there with me because I will get legal all over you.   She did try to change what she thought she might have said, but I had to call her on it because it's all in written text.  Then she apologized and we were able to have a decent conversation.   I know I joke about me talking so much that people don't hear what I say except for keywords that they are looking for, but that is exactly what happened here.  She heard "payment", "money" and "help out".  It was crazy.  I literally had to have the entire conversation all over again, but I definitely condensed it to only address those 3 words.   Things are back on track, but I emphasized that if she every needed clarification for anything, please say something first instead of jumping to conclusions, then questioning that conclusion, then answering that conclusion, then getting upset at the answer and taking it out on someone who doesn't have a clue what the San Juan Hill just happened.   But this is exactly the reason I do everything with a paper trail.
