Well, the electors, the people that actually cast the votes for President, can, in fact, cast their vote for whomever they want. This is called being a "faithless" elector. Theoretically, a tiny cadre of faithless electors could overturn the will of the majority, and elect the person that lost the Presidential election.

The electoral college is an anachronism that needs to be replaced with something more indicative of the times. I think a system in which each congressional district is counted rather than the entire state, along with getting rid of actual human beings that vote for the presidential candidates after the general election, would be a good start.

Hmm, perhaps the two electoral votes that count as Senators should be left up to whomever wins the most votes in a state....

I really dont pay that much to politics and I never have...but this is very interesting to me.

Now our vote only counts for half because MI wants to be babies about what day we vote.

What difference does it make? Doesn't Granholm have a lot to do with that though? If she does, there is my answer right there.

Our votes really dont make a difference anyway, cant the electoral college vote anyway they want to, no matter what the majority peoples vote was? Please correct me if Im wrong and explain it so Im not in the dark.

Ok last one. I must stop teh posting.

You know those deals that say "Get new shoes--UP to half off??"

You're vote counts UP to half.

As a Democrat my vote counts for nothing.

If you're GOP, you get half a vote.

Granholm's fault? Sure.

But also State Democratic Party chairman Mark Brewer and too many others to mention.

There's this whole fervor of becoming the first in the nation primary or AT LEAST before the Super Tuesday on February 5.

Because after that, it's believed that the candidate for the Dems and the candidate for the GOP will be chosen.

SO maybe, maybe, our voting will sway momentum for a candidate, which will lead to him being the Dem or GOP nominee,

but our ACTUAL votes will NOT be represented at the conventions that CHOOSE who from the Democrats and who from the Republicans will face off in November

MAKE SENSE??

--------------------------------------------------------------

Now what you're referring to is the general election.

You're safe there.

As Americans, WE ALL get an equal vote in the general election.

BUT, the GOP and the Dems choose their contender FOR the general election in the primaries and then make it final at their conventions.

The primaries are VERY important.

WHY?

Because, if a weaker candidate gets the nomination,

(Say for example, I don't know---John Kerry in 04)

it means the other party's guy will probably be our next president. (4 more years of Bush)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BOTTOM LINE

You can vote for whoever you want in the general election BUT

If you're a Democrat in Michigan, you were stripped of all power to help pick out the right Democrat to run for president

If you were a Republican in Michigan, your voice is only half as loud as ANY other person in the country in picking the right republican to run for president

THAT'S what I'm bitching about.

I hope that clarifies things a little.

MY GOD. This is SO veryoff topic, but like Marc said: HOW THE HELL do you type that much in such a short period of time? I'm fucking 105 AWPM and you beat the pants off of my secretarial skills.

You, sir, must have fingers that could punch through someone's sternum and kill them instantly. Ever try the five finger touch of death like in Kill Bill? It would probably work if you did it.

Kay...back to politics. Sorry about the interruption.

Who knew two finger hunt and peck was so effective?

Don't confuse her with the clusterf^%$ that is the electoral college yet.

There can be another thread for that.

We're talking about the primaries here.

Jadnifer, read my post above again.

You can only lay blame on Granholm because she is a Democrat with political power, not because she is Governor. It's the rules of the Democratic and Republican partys that are stripping our votes of power, not.. I repeat, NOT the government.

and eternal.. I'm right there beside you in this fight. This was all a power move by state partys to influance the nomination. There is very little time left... but, if enough of us throw fits to local party officials and we somehow manage to throw some shit back up hill.. we may just get the state level party leaders to change the date. I doubt it though.

Obama won btw.

  • 3 weeks later...

So, to put a coda on this saga, I voted, and my vote mattered even less than the not-at-all that I expected.

After begging on the part of friends and party leaders, I voted.

40% uncommitted to Clinton's 55%.

No one gave a shit.

NO ONE.

And the DNC reasserted its commitment to disallowing my vote to count.

I think this power play was a bust.

F$%^ you, Mark Brewer! (state Democratic chair)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On the flipside, the GOP voted counted more than expected.

It gave Romney a reprieve, and gave him the hope he can win this. (which he won't)

It also gave McCain a little boost, posting a strong second.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WHO REALLY WON??

On the one hand, the GOP primary probably helped the Democrats the most, since it crowned yet ANOTHER GOP frontrunner, thereby making them look even more confused and fractured than ever.

On the other, it put McCain in good position to win S. Carolina, especially considering Huckabee's distant 3rd place here.

I'm very mixed about Huckabee falling away.

His fundamentalist Christian-based campaign frightened me, BUT, now that McCain is the frontrunner, with his crossover appeal,

it looks very promising for a GOP president for the 3rd time in a row.

We shall see.

Oh, she might.

Here's what's going to happen next.

Obama will take South Carolina where he's won over the Black vote,

BUT it will be by a small margin (kinda like how Clinton won in NH)

They will go into Super Tuesday co-frontrunners, where a zillion deletgates and the party's nomination is up for grabs.

[sAVE THE DATE--Super Tuesday is Feb. 5]

IF Clinton's appeal among women and east coasters hold,

EVEN a loss in S Carolina won't keep her from getting the nomination.

She still leads in national polls, and if she wins on Feb 5, she could take it to the white house.

Again we'll have to see.

Either way, I think McCain is the GOPs best hope in holding onto 1600 Pennsylvania Ave come November.

This explains it not that I didn't figure it out with that shit that happened in Florida....they always find a way to tip the scale in favor of thee ol skull and crossbones gang yah.

My ghetto buddy is pretty mad he can't vote for Obama.

When are people going to get MAD ENOUGH.

The days of 'peaceful protest' are over..........

I fear that a full on riot is the only way.

Don't look at me, I am too old to sit in jail, I have thought about chaining myself to a gas pump......but my back hurts. Leave it to the younger ones.

    • I am currently floored.   FedEx did a massive 6 box delivery to the wrong address.  I had an autoship order scheduled to arrive before this past weekend.  Nothing showed up.  I contacted the order site and they had a link for the order...a photo of all my boxes thrown in the snow and up the sidewalk of a residence that was not mine.   You would think that at some point, the driver would have looked at the delivery address after they kept throwing box upon box at this location with no shelter from the elements.  They didn't even knock on the door to inform the residents that massive 65+ pound boxes were left all over their walkway.  Nope.  Just dumped them, took a photo as they were walking away and left.   I wonder what the person who found all of those misdelivered boxes must have been thinking when they saw them.  Maybe they kept everything to use, distribute or sell.  No idea.  No claim was filed on that end as of yet.   Fortunately for me, one of the sites that I ordered from, replaced everything at no extra cost.   Unfortunately, now I'm concerned for the other items yet to be delivered.   Needless to say, I'll be watching my notifications like a hawk.

    • ~~~~~ Yeah, thank you for the check-in.   Happy to say it was all a misunderstanding.  But she pulled out her "ghetto" and that's when things went South.  I get very professional minded when I enter into situations like that because when someone starts bring the court into conversations, I'm in court 2 times a year, every year, so don't go there with me because I will get legal all over you.   She did try to change what she thought she might have said, but I had to call her on it because it's all in written text.  Then she apologized and we were able to have a decent conversation.   I know I joke about me talking so much that people don't hear what I say except for keywords that they are looking for, but that is exactly what happened here.  She heard "payment", "money" and "help out".  It was crazy.  I literally had to have the entire conversation all over again, but I definitely condensed it to only address those 3 words.   Things are back on track, but I emphasized that if she every needed clarification for anything, please say something first instead of jumping to conclusions, then questioning that conclusion, then answering that conclusion, then getting upset at the answer and taking it out on someone who doesn't have a clue what the San Juan Hill just happened.   But this is exactly the reason I do everything with a paper trail.
