Well, after much consideration and making mention of it for years, I’ve come to the decision to hang up the headphones for good and retire from DJ’ing. My last night at City Club will be Saturday, January 19, 2008.

Beginning as an alternate in 2002 and doing Friday nights then moving into a Saturday residency my experience at City Club has been both an amazing and humbling time. It provided me the opportunity to spin a lot of new music and opened the doors for me to be invited to the Infest music festival in the United Kingdom (twice) and spend some time DJ’ing in other cities throughout the Midwest (Madison, Bloomington, Indianapolis, Louisville, and Cleveland to name a few). Oh yeah throw in many guest sets around town too ;)

There are several reasons for my leaving; from getting older (there are kids there half my age), to significant hearing loss in my left ear, changes at the club, lack of changes at the club, people focusing less on the music and more on whatever, peoples general apathy towards the Detroit scene, unnecessary bullshit drama, my own musical taste changing (um, I really like noise), growing tired of the late nights, lack of music/scene-progression, other non-dj’ing and career opportunities presenting themselves elsewhere, growing tired of playing songs 20 years old and playing the same songs week after week after week, etc… etc… etc… You might even be able to come up with some reasons I haven’t…

These lyrics seem to sum my feelings up…

“I think I've reached that point

where giving up and going on

are both the same dead end to me

are both the same old song.”

End – The Cure

I’ve met a TON of great people through the clubs, shared laughs and talked music with many. As you can imagine, I’ve seen my fair share of craziness from City Club as well. Managed to save many a funny, threatening, praising, extremely judgmental, and just plain weird messages left on the request sheets too. There’s also a nice collection of drawings from over the years that crack me up. I’ll be left with many memories.

THANKS SO MUCH to so many of you for the support and for adding to the experience over the years.

Hope to see many of you out this Saturday and then for my final night on the 19th.

-Marc

P.S. I’m also selling off a TON of music that I used for DJ’ing or that I acquired while DJ’ing. The HUGE list includes tons of synthpop, industrial and even trance and everything in between from And One, Manson to Iris and Wolfshiem. PM me and I’ll provide you said list. Plenty of excellent stuff in great condition, reasonable prices too.

Now that I think of it, when does your set play? Like when are you DJing?

I wanna stop by the booth and do some of this: :grouphug

Free huggins...? Yeash...?

10-12:30 is first set

the 1:30 - ??? is second set. Supposed to be 3 but if it's cool with J9 and the crowd is digging it and I'm still up for it I may go later.

I'm not a huggy kind of guy and my girlfriend will be with me so...

Thanks for the support

-Marc
