I'm Torn Between The Two Parties

Recommended Posts

For the first time in a long time I'm actually torn between voting for a republican or a demecrat.

I can't believe I feel this way but both sides have canidates that I am seriously considering. Is anyone else here on the fence about their vote or is it just me?

I almost never have voted republican (cept that one guy  ) but at the same time I'm not a total liberal demicrat, I guess I'm middle of the road.

This time though I'm just having trouble deciding.

It's like that one "Vote or Die" episode of South Park: It doesn't matter what party you choose or who you're voting for, when it comes down to it every election you have the choice of picking between a turd sandwich or a giant douche.

I'm perpetually on the fence. In a very general sense i tend to be on the Republican side of the fence when it comes to economics (which i think is the most important set of issues in terms of government). But on almost all the other issues i tend to be more Democratic.

Really though both democrats and republicans are all over the board once you actually break down their individual platforms. D or R is easy to make generalities about, but when it comes to specific candidates, almost none of them have "the party line" all the way down the list.

I'm trying really hard to actually look at what the candidate stands for, specifically, regardless of party. Often i think we tend to make up our minds first, and the go around trying to find things to justify our already decided upon verdict about a given candidate. (aka a preconceived notion) Its going to happen anyway, but trying to avoid it i think is worth the effort.

I really havent been paying much attention to what each candidate stands for even though I should be. I didnt vote yesterday in the primaries because 1) I wasnt registered and 2) I would have no idea who to vote and wouldnt have made an educated vote and thats no good for anybody involved.

I want to learn more about the candidates when it comes down to two to actually vote for so that I can make an educated vote.

I think that is a wise decision, Jadnifer. I happen to read the newspaper... a rather great deal, actually. Spending a few minutes each day during a quiet time with a newspaper will do a lot to help you make your decision.

Thank you. That is very wise and sound advice.

Well, that probably won't work either, torn asunder. See, the Republican party, before the election of 1860, was a "third party". We ended up killing each other for four years.

I am massively oversimplifying things, but if the two parties DO start to disintegrate... I would begin to be a little worried.

    • I am currently floored.   FedEx did a massive 6 box delivery to the wrong address.  I had an autoship order scheduled to arrive before this past weekend.  Nothing showed up.  I contacted the order site and they had a link for the order...a photo of all my boxes thrown in the snow and up the sidewalk of a residence that was not mine.   You would think that at some point, the driver would have looked at the delivery address after they kept throwing box upon box at this location with no shelter from the elements.  They didn't even knock on the door to inform the residents that massive 65+ pound boxes were left all over their walkway.  Nope.  Just dumped them, took a photo as they were walking away and left.   I wonder what the person who found all of those misdelivered boxes must have been thinking when they saw them.  Maybe they kept everything to use, distribute or sell.  No idea.  No claim was filed on that end as of yet.   Fortunately for me, one of the sites that I ordered from, replaced everything at no extra cost.   Unfortunately, now I'm concerned for the other items yet to be delivered.   Needless to say, I'll be watching my notifications like a hawk.

    • ~~~~~ Yeah, thank you for the check-in.   Happy to say it was all a misunderstanding.  But she pulled out her "ghetto" and that's when things went South.  I get very professional minded when I enter into situations like that because when someone starts bring the court into conversations, I'm in court 2 times a year, every year, so don't go there with me because I will get legal all over you.   She did try to change what she thought she might have said, but I had to call her on it because it's all in written text.  Then she apologized and we were able to have a decent conversation.   I know I joke about me talking so much that people don't hear what I say except for keywords that they are looking for, but that is exactly what happened here.  She heard "payment", "money" and "help out".  It was crazy.  I literally had to have the entire conversation all over again, but I definitely condensed it to only address those 3 words.   Things are back on track, but I emphasized that if she every needed clarification for anything, please say something first instead of jumping to conclusions, then questioning that conclusion, then answering that conclusion, then getting upset at the answer and taking it out on someone who doesn't have a clue what the San Juan Hill just happened.   But this is exactly the reason I do everything with a paper trail.
