Hi, I'm John, I've kinda recently moved to Clawson-Royal Oak area (sorta down the street a few blocks from Luna), and am kind of hoping to establish myself better in this area. I'd really appreciate any suggestions people might have on what there is to actually DO around here, on a semi-consistent basis. Also, went to City Club last weekend for the first time and enjoyed it quite a bit.

You actually picked a really good place to live, it's central to a lot of great places, and it's also a very trendy place.

Royal Oak (as you said you've been to Luna) is a great place to go, although I like CC a tad better, but nothing like being in your own back yard. There's Mephistos in Hamtramck which isn't far from you, The Ritz just slightly south of you, The Necto (in AA) isn't really that far either, just have to hop on a few freeways and you're there.

There's some great shopping also in that area including Noir, and Showtime (which isn't really far off Woodward).

For restaurants, you're in one of the best spots, you're near Troy which has almost every chain restaurant under the sun, plus a few extras, you have Ferndale which has the Blue Nile, The Fly Trap, which I find to be quite unique. There's TONS of good places in Royal Oak, I hear that you are next to one of the best Sushi places in the area near Clawson (Noble Fish).

Let me know what kinds of foods or places you like, and I (and anyone else here) can suggest places for you to go.

If you go to CC this weekend, you should introduce yourself to me, I'm pretty visible there, at least not too many people have missed finding me. :)

re: hunhee

Thank you so much, this will help a lot. I actually forgot about Mephistos in Hamtramck (heard theres a really good coffee shop and art collective there as well)...really want to try Necto, as I have friend who lives in Ypsilanti...and I actually think the Ritz is close to where I work in Warren, so Ill have to check it out.

Oh and Noble Fish is kinda in walking distance of me, I love that place (great tasty frozen fish cakes), just wish the back room was bigger, so that there'd be a better chance of you getting a chance to eat and sit...but yeah, if anyone has any suggestions for good (non-chain) sushi-great coffee shops-small unique restaurants, that'd be helpful; looking for things to fill out a routine in a week, live music, good art galleries...basically things to be involve myself in.

Might be at CC on Saturday, not sure yet.

Hello and Welcome to our Domain!

You said that you work in Warren? There is actually a great little coffeehouse that I frequent that is in Roseville called Trixie's. Its on 10 1/2 and Gratiot. It has a nice little cozy atmosphere and they have local bands that come, open mike nights and poetry readings. Its a great place to meet people and just relax.

Let me kow if you would like any more info about it.

Welcome. =)

My 'plan' was to go into graphic design back in the ancient times (10?) years ago. Didn't actually work out, end ended up with a less creative job of PC/Network repair and then fairly soon after MISmanagement. Fine art major and assumed i would go into some artsy-ish type job from the time i was about 6 years old... Strange how things work out.

Welcome to the place, hopefully we will see you around often. =)

Sometimes the artsy stuff can be frustrating (obv), you can try to create designs, and wonder IF theres ever EVEN a solution possible that exists in your head for that project.

At my old job I used to work next to computer programmers, and was really impressed by what they did, you almost have to be like a detective of numbers and letters...sometimes I was jealous and wondered if the satisfaction of what they did would have been preferable to me in the long run.

Yeah, for us quaint little eastside DGNers, Trixie's is too cool for school.

By God, that saying was cheesy, my bad. Either way, you should still check it out.

I'm an old lady now and haven't been to an art opening in ages BUT...back when I was too poor to afford my own damn wine and shrimp cocktails I had a schedule of when each of the area galleries had their new artist debuts (which of course come with munchies and delicious bevvies) - there are enough galleries that you can keep yourself in free booze at LEAST once a week.

And I heart Noble Fish...they have stupid hours though.
