Did it myself

I pierced my right ear's cartilage Friday morning. It took me nearly 25 minutes to get the earring through the cartilage (( to pierce it )). It was around 3:15 am when i finally felt the end of the earring go slightly through the flesh. I had to jump in the shower and run hot water over the ear to coax the rest of the earring through so i could get the stopper on.

Surprisingly, it doesnt hurt. oO

A dose of rubbing alcohol every night AFTER a hot shower.... and it doesnt hurt thus far.

Although it made me come to one conclusion...... the next time I want a piercing, I'll save up the money and get it done professionally. oO

I used a normal earring. A regular studd with a stopper. Not the sharpest and my ear did bleed but not a whole lot.

The thing was that I had gotten the earring's tip partially into my ear, so there was a crater, but no hole. So the earring would hang in there but not go through. So, I had found something a little sharper (( another earring )) and worked that through. I could feel the tip but it hadnt punched through. So back to the other earring. I got it through but that's when it started stinging so I hopped in the shower and got the arring through, and put the stopper on.

Yes, it took me nearly 25 minutes to get it through, from contemplation to completion. ^^;

Wow Jarod, you pay waaaay more attention to things than I do!

When my ex visited a few months ago, we did some drinking and then some ill-advised self-piercing. Months later, the double piercing I did on her ear has still had no troubles, so yours may never hurt or get infected. Hopefully that's the case

Good to know. Hopefully things go peachy-like. They seem to be though...... after all, i rolled over onto my right side and dozed off for a few minutes and then realized I was sleeping on that side. No pain on the ear.

mind you, it took my left ear a few WEEKS before I could sleep on it even slightly..... oO

i peirced my ear a few months ago, althought it was the lobe, it didnt hurt much. It was sore for a long ass time cuz the earring i was putting in werent the right metal. I'm allergic to cheap metal, so they kept infecting and such, but eventually they healed and i have had any problems since.

I was thinking about doing my cartilage myself, but im to parionoid about it not healing right.

I'd say the main issues with piercing one's cartilage, or any spot for that matter, would be some of the risks, not the pain.

Taken off of BMEzine.com, A keloid aint too friendly. They can occur when your body over-reacts to a sudden trauma (( i.e. a piercing )) and create a growth. relatively painful as well, and an even bigger bitch to get removed as they can either cut them off, or use laser surgery. And even then, keloids can still come back.

As for industril piercings, the ear can 'collapse' and become deformed and mishapen. Go to http://www.bmezine.com and look up the Risks section. Very informative.

And the piercing didnt hurt, it merely stung. I hissed here and there but that was after the ear finally caved and I could FEEL the earring wanting to go through, but it wasnt as the jewelry wasnt sharp enough. I'm tempted to try my other ear........ <<;
