My family always had dinner together at the kitchen table. Only once in a while was someone missing for a special reason. I've maintained that custom. We eat together every night we can. It's important and a great time to talk and just discuss what's going on in each others lives. You are all sitting there, around the table, no tv, no other distractions, and you can really talk, and more importantly really listen.

I chuckled at this part of the article:

And perhaps most shocking of all, in rare instances they could apparently demonstrate exemplary table manners. (Scientists have been unable to replicate this last finding on a consistent basis, however.)

That's my daughter... inconsistent in table manners! LOL

My family didnt always have dinner together.

The way I feel about this is the fact that if the family is dysfunctional, having dinner isnt alone going to solve that problem. It may help in certain situations because the family knows whats going on with everyone else, but the family has to be close all the time, not just at dinnertime.

Back in the 80's when my Dad was a Fire Cheif, we would have family dinners, but then at anytime he'd have to get up and head out to the fire house for a fire. After he retired from Cheif, he was just a part timer, and worked at the hardware store so that he could see his girls at dinner, and make sure that he could tuck us in at night.

For the longest time 93-2001, my dad worked the Midnight shift at Venture which is now Cadince Inovations. Even though that sometimes dinner got in the way of his sleep shedual, he still tried to make it. If he didn't it was okay, we understood. My dad made a point to let us know that just because he can't make it to dinner, he's making the money so that we can have dinner time.

I think its because both my mom's side and my dad's side made sure that dinner was to be eaten with the family, even if you have nothing to talk about.

I wait everynight til 8:30pm to have dinner with Odims, since that is the time he gets home from work. On everyother Friday, when the Munchkins are here, I make them dinner, and I'll have alittle of this, little of that with them, but I save up for when Odims gets home. On the weekends we have them, Saturday and Sunday dinners are normally something home cooked and really filling, but we still make sure that both of us are there.

My mom always had a motto: "Hey, since it's quiet, must mean that everything is good and tasty."

    • I am currently floored.   FedEx did a massive 6 box delivery to the wrong address.  I had an autoship order scheduled to arrive before this past weekend.  Nothing showed up.  I contacted the order site and they had a link for the order...a photo of all my boxes thrown in the snow and up the sidewalk of a residence that was not mine.   You would think that at some point, the driver would have looked at the delivery address after they kept throwing box upon box at this location with no shelter from the elements.  They didn't even knock on the door to inform the residents that massive 65+ pound boxes were left all over their walkway.  Nope.  Just dumped them, took a photo as they were walking away and left.   I wonder what the person who found all of those misdelivered boxes must have been thinking when they saw them.  Maybe they kept everything to use, distribute or sell.  No idea.  No claim was filed on that end as of yet.   Fortunately for me, one of the sites that I ordered from, replaced everything at no extra cost.   Unfortunately, now I'm concerned for the other items yet to be delivered.   Needless to say, I'll be watching my notifications like a hawk.
