What Would You Do?

Recommended Posts

So, you all saw the pictures I posted of my hair - how it's all over black now, with streaks and chunks of red here and there, right? I was really happy with it, and basically still am.

However, when I went back to have my roots touched-up, I thought she'd just dye the roots of the parts that were black, and leave the roots of the parts that are supposed to be red alone.

But she dyed ALL my roots black.

I'm ready for another touch-up. But here's the thing. If I go back to her, she's going to dye ALL my roots black again. And what is going to end up happening is the red will be slowly grown out of my hair as those black roots creep forward every month. My only alternative will be to eventually have those sections bleached if I want them to be red.

I was trying to avoid as much damage to my hair as I could. I didn't bleach my blonde - I was just putting heavily processed Special Effects in a super-bright shade of red right on my blonde, which resulted in a nice deep but vibrant shade of red.

Now, I don't know what to do. My hair looks like shit right now because I am kinda frozen, not wanting to do the wrong thing, ya know?

I was thinking about taking myself to a place like London Calling, who handles this sort of unusual hair coloring more than places like my neighborhood salon. But how good are they, really? Is there a better place I should go? Or does anyone here have alternative suggestions?

i wish i could help you out but i can't. i have honestly only been happy ONCE with getting my hair colored (i had it black with red chunks a few years ago but it was just too much to maintain/too much money so i didn't do it again)

any other time i got it done (i had been trying to get the dark with red chunks since 1996, no lie) and they NEVER EVER EVER did what i asked/did it right. never. once i had brown with copper, once it was all very uniform and weird looking... and copper... usually the red didn't show up or washed out RIGHT AWAY.

i had a girl who tried to do it many times and said i was a freak of nature cuz my hair would not take... anyways....

i can tell you this much- the one time the guy did it right was at my soon-to-be-ex-step-sister-in-law's (that is to say, my husband's step sister) salon. i can try to get you the number and find out if they guy is still there if you'd like. it is much farther away than london calling and he might charge quite a bit. not sure you think it's worth it? but let me know.

FC, did you ask your stylist about the red? Or did she just do it black to take care of the roots? Just curious why she didn't address it.

One thing you may want to consider in the future is a peek-a-boo type coloring. My stylist never puts the contrast color directly on the hair on either side of where I usually part my hair. She does it on the layers directly underneath. The result is whenever I move and my hair shifts the color peeks/pops out. As the roots grow out she can just maintain the one color without damaging my hair. It's easier for me to maintain since I can't afford to go in contstantly for upkeep, plus it's less damaging. Just a thought....
