I Am Tempted To Be Vegan Again

Most cows and other animals that you eat are horribly mistreated and often suffer when they die.

Yes I am aware that unfortunately animals do suffer before they die. I mean dying can be painful. Not that I know. (comedic relief) However, they dont have to be mistreated and suffer more than they have to before they DO die.

Obviously, that goes without saying. I wasn't trying to advocate for animal mistreatment. Quite the opposite.

The point I was trying to make is that the whole thing is cruel. Animals suffer before they die because of the way they are killed. Would you want someone cutting into you while you were still alive? I'm going to guess "no" on this one. This mistreatment of the animals on the farms just makes matters worse.

I think that we misunderstood each other here. I didnt think at all that you were an advocate for animal mistreatment. I just find it a hard pill to swallow that these awful things DO happen. That is why, hopefully someday I can have a career that will be useful in helping to prevent mistreatment and making it less painful for food animals to die.

I wouldnt mind being a member of PETA, but Im not like overly obstinate about things like some of the members of that organization are. I just want to be able to make a difference in the lives of animals.

That's why I don't eat meat. Knowing that an animal suffered so I could stuff my face is hard to swallow, you know?

Do you not eat any meat or not any mass slaughter meat? If I came over w/ a free range hunting kill of venison steaks would you eat it? This is honest curiousity, I'm always intrigued to where people stand on this, not being cheeky.

Yes, I know that some people find it hard to eat meat because of the way that the animals are treated. However, I was brought up to believe that the animals were created to nourish my body and that's what I intend to do.

You know, I dont know if they have feelings per se, but the veggies that we eat were also once alive.

Have any of you tried to move a a full grown cow by hand when it doesn't want to move? Here's a little secrete, they're heavy. This video shows them being moved with forklifts, which is not at all uncommon. The poking and prodding, again not uncommon, nor does it cause them a great deal of injury.

I can remember when it came time to sheer the goats we used to raise there were a few that needed a little persuasion in the form of a boot to the guts to get them where they belonged.

They're animals. That's what they're for.

I don't eat any meat.

As far as the venison goes, I couldn't bring myself to eat a deer. Plus I wouldn't know if it suffered before it died (was it killed instantly, or did it hang on to life for awhile).

Animals have a brain and nerve endings. Animals can feel PAIN. Vegetables do not have brains or nerve endings. Vegetables also nourish the body.

ever sat and communed with a tree? ever been out in nature and felt the energy from it? not trying to be flippant, just pointing out that, even without a "brain", things can be more alive than most people assume... i burn firewood for heat every winter, but i'll be damned if i'm going to cut down a living tree for it - hell, i once tried to nail a piece of wood into a tree to build a ladder for a tree fort, and the dull thud almost made me sick...

anyway, to my point - in my opinion, as long as one can show respect for the sacrifice made to keep us healthy, i see no problem with well-rounded nourishment. after all, we're omnivores, our bodies were designed to process bout animal and vegetable nourishment...

again, not trying to dismiss your beliefs/feelings at all - just sharing my thoughts on this. i do understand your reasons...

Oh no, I wasn't trying to say that vegetables and plants and such aren't alive..and I completely agree with what you are saying.

The problem is that most people don't give a shit if the animal suffers and don't appreciate the sacrifice because they feel like they are entitled to eat them. *shrugs* just my opinion.

It's a slippery slope. It ranges from not deciding not to eat one particular type of animal because you feel that they are mistreated to only eating dead plants that have "fallen naturally." I always find it interesting to see where people draw the line. If you choose not to eat meat, does that mean you can't eat plants, too? Does that mean you can't wear products made with leather or suede or snakeskin or fur? Does it mean you have to refuse medical treatments that were tested on animals, or that use animal by products?

This is not directed at Bean Water or anyone else, just a hypothetical question. I think whether to eat meat or not, and the reasons, are your own personal choice. As long as you don't try make everyone else abide by your beliefs, it's fine either way. I (generally) don't eat meat or meat products, but it has nothing to do with ethical reasons. I simply don't like the taste. My feeling is that in this world we live in, long before there were humans, animals ate other animals or plants that they could kill to nourish their bodies. Not to be cruel, but because of instinct, and a need to ensure their own survival. We are animals and therefore have just as much right to kill other animals and plants to feed ourselves. We may not have the brute strenght to kill cows and other animals with our bare hands, but we have the superior intelligence to build the tools that allow us to do so.

That said, it would be nice if we could manage to kill our food in a humane way.

    • I am currently floored.   FedEx did a massive 6 box delivery to the wrong address.  I had an autoship order scheduled to arrive before this past weekend.  Nothing showed up.  I contacted the order site and they had a link for the order...a photo of all my boxes thrown in the snow and up the sidewalk of a residence that was not mine.   You would think that at some point, the driver would have looked at the delivery address after they kept throwing box upon box at this location with no shelter from the elements.  They didn't even knock on the door to inform the residents that massive 65+ pound boxes were left all over their walkway.  Nope.  Just dumped them, took a photo as they were walking away and left.   I wonder what the person who found all of those misdelivered boxes must have been thinking when they saw them.  Maybe they kept everything to use, distribute or sell.  No idea.  No claim was filed on that end as of yet.   Fortunately for me, one of the sites that I ordered from, replaced everything at no extra cost.   Unfortunately, now I'm concerned for the other items yet to be delivered.   Needless to say, I'll be watching my notifications like a hawk.
