The Myth Of The Ultra Fuel Efficient Vehicle

Recommended Posts

But the Loremo is not a car for dreamers; not only will it enter mass production next year, it will sport a base price attainable by mortal motorists: 15,000 euros (about U.S. $22,000).

That there is the money shot. If that price is realistic, we are good to go within a decade or so when theres used versions on the market for 5 grand.

i'll wait to see the crash tests vs. a hummer...

(don't get me wrong - i love both the concept, and the car, but...)

Check out the link I just posted. There's no doors in the side for a reason. Besides... You get manuverability with a light chassis like that. And if you're gonna die... you're gonna die. I'd rather have the mileage.

Partly the reason why we have such shitty fuel economy is the "Arms Race" a.k.a. The Biggest Dicksize Contest.™© Of which i was once a regular contestant.

Regardless of the engine, a larger structure is going to be (by comparison) a fuel sucker. By the "bigger is better" rational we all will have to drive ever increasing monster-truck-tanks until they implode due to the gravitational attraction of their massive size.

Having said that, i drive a big ass Lincoln and virtually all my vehicles have been big-effin things. Often i seem to advocate ideas that are against my own personal interests but i think are better for the overall mass of humanity. Seems sort of anti-Darwinian.

Well, sure 150 MPG sounds good, but what of its emissions? I can convert my truck to about forty miles per gallon, but it would be a frickin' smog machine...

They've got some amazingly clean diesels these days. Now that we get the low-sulfer diesel fuel here it's a lot easier to do. It has to meet our emissions regs in any case, so I wouldn't worry about that.

looks fun though, light, mid engined. RWD. if not the fastest car they seem fun in the same way Smart Roadsters and Smart Coupe's did (even the braubus tuned petrols got 50 to the gallon)

lets just say HW wants one for weekends, even if it can only fit my remmington rifle broken down and i'll have to wear my guillie

Dude. Check out the rear hatch opening. It's pretty huge. With the rear seats folded down, I'm pretty sure you'll have ample room for your goodies.

Well, batteries can be recycled, and if the electricity came from a nuclear plant or a wind farm, or a hydroelectric dam, or a solar array, or a wave farm, or...

Yeah.. I know. But even if the source of electricity is renewable, there's still an out of pocket expense associated with it. I have yet to see a chart/study that shows the combined costs/mile.

Personally, I'd settle for 75mpg and some more performance. Double the horsepower of the GT to 100 with a small four-cylinder engine and it would still get fantastic mileage. The damn car weighs 1400lbs!!

    • I am currently floored.   FedEx did a massive 6 box delivery to the wrong address.  I had an autoship order scheduled to arrive before this past weekend.  Nothing showed up.  I contacted the order site and they had a link for the order...a photo of all my boxes thrown in the snow and up the sidewalk of a residence that was not mine.   You would think that at some point, the driver would have looked at the delivery address after they kept throwing box upon box at this location with no shelter from the elements.  They didn't even knock on the door to inform the residents that massive 65+ pound boxes were left all over their walkway.  Nope.  Just dumped them, took a photo as they were walking away and left.   I wonder what the person who found all of those misdelivered boxes must have been thinking when they saw them.  Maybe they kept everything to use, distribute or sell.  No idea.  No claim was filed on that end as of yet.   Fortunately for me, one of the sites that I ordered from, replaced everything at no extra cost.   Unfortunately, now I'm concerned for the other items yet to be delivered.   Needless to say, I'll be watching my notifications like a hawk.
