pomba gira
Being an underpaid teacher at an underfunded school, I always need "stuff" for my classroom! The one thing they don't tell you in teacher school is how much loot you spend out of your own pocket. Or maybe they do if you go thru a regular BA program; I did the 2nd career online Masters thing after I'd already started teaching. So anyway... the particular need I'm placing before you good people is books. Specifically, chapter books suitable for 5th graders (or ages 9-12). I especially want the popular series fiction like Series of Unfortunate Events, Spiderwick Chronicles, Harry Potter, Artemis Fowl, and so on. Any Newberry, Caldecott, or Coretta Scott King award winners are great, too. I DON'T particularly want any "throwaway" series like Babysitters Club or Sweet Valley Snotnoses (altho my girls love them, gods help 'em)... but certainly won't turn any donations away. I've been buying some of these books on eBay and found some good deals, but right now I can't manage that due to spending so much on feeding the Mini-Menagerie. So any donations would be greatly appreciated! I can PayPal or mail $$ for postage to any donors, or have the books picked up by some of my Detroit area family. Thanks in advance! sass_in_the_pants
I go to used booksales fairly often. I will keep my eyes open for these. The Redford Library has a used book sale every Saturday from noon to 4 and the Livonia library has one two or three times a year. And they charge like fifty cents for a book, and on the last day, it's something like a buck to fill up a whole bag. So, you might want to check those out, but like I said, if I see some, I'll get them.

SuZQZ
Damn! I just donated a chunck of my daughter's old books last summer (she's currently in 6th grade). Many of them she never even read. I will look through her book shelves and see if there are more I can pass on. She isn't interested in reading them as they are fiction and she's a non-fiction kinda gal. If I can come up with some I'll PM you for an address to ship them to. If someone else can get enjoyment from them, it's worth it.
JaneDead
my friends run something called "liberated books" out of their house/garage. people bring/donate books and you can get them for free. it happens once a month...pm me for more info if you are interested. they have all types of books for all ages, magazines, games, video tapes. the first time i took my son he left with about 45 books he loves to read. you can bring books you don't want anymore there too. you can find some good stuff. fiction, religion, cooking, text books you name it. i got some nice hard cover books that look brand new.
