berfday annoys me, as well as ax...how about Valemtimes Day? You wanna know what is like driving nails in my temple? People who say Uman instead of Human.

My uncle was from the sticks of kentucky...lived in a little shack in a "holler".

He called me one time...and I remember the conversation so vividly...I'll share the short little story with you...

"i wen down ta that lil church thar...theys battist (thats baptist for you northerners). Theys in there speckin in crazy ways Missy. Theys sayin hummalalas in shit. It was crazy. In this crazy red headed feller....he was wavin his erms in talkin to THE GOOD LORD...in sayin hows they gon brin alls us to geeeeezUS. It was perdy excitin...but we left at noon cuz the stow was opnin and we had to buy a case a beer. knowwadda mean?"

I miss him :) He rocked! Gotta love those crazy good ol' boys. I just went down there for his funeral....and people are definitely hard to understand when you get to these small little towns in the sticks.

I know what you mean.

I'm from Southeastern Kentucky.

And some people are hard to understand.

Luckily, not all of us.

But the word "perdy" does get on my nerves.

People in my life do these ones:

Supposubly for supposedly

Vernable for vulnerable

Weapontry for weaponry

Yantsy for antsy

Flustrated for... well, I explained to him once that it's either "frustrated" or "flustered", which he appreciated. But he still continues to use "flustrated"

Gratchit for Gratiot (Correct pronounciation: Gra (as in "Grab") -shit)

I hear "exspecially" instead of "especially"..

People say that I say "either and neither" wrong... (-I-ther, and n-I-ther is how I say them..)

hahahaha People say my name wrong alot of the time..

My name is Sybil.. they say "Civil".. "Sibilia".. I get it all butchered up.

hahahahaha

Accents cause us to say all sorts of words differently.. "cow, bagel, orange..."

My last name is Gosling.

And I almost never hear it pronounced correctly.

Do they NOT teach kindergarten kids that a baby goose is called a gosling anymore? It's like nobody has ever heard the word. I've given up saying, "just like a baby goose," because I get blank stares or silence.

The correct pronounciation is "GAHZ-ling". But I usually get Goss-ling, or ghose-ling.

It's not a mispronunciation but rather a misuse of words. I friend of mine constantly says, "I seen it." I keep trying to tell him it's, "I saw it" or "I have seen it". Oh well.

Gawd, yes! Both of my grandpartent say "I seen..." And people who say "I says..." drive me nuts, too

No. But you're one of the rare one's who isn't. :sorcerer:

I'd have pronounced it the way FC does, but I'm pretty sure whoever first introduced us said Mister Boo.

um yeah because I have no idea why I thought it was MASTER Beau instead of Mister....

I think the cutest butchering of a common thing was my brother. When he was a kid...he called Mountain Dew....

MOPPIN DEW.

He still goes to say it sometimes....I don't know where it came from or why it stuck....but I thought it was super cute.

Everyone Mispronounces/misunderstands "Msterbeau" it's actually pretty amusing. :-)

Chernobyl always corrects me.

I originally thought that it was Master Bo, until she corrected me and told me that it was Mister Boo! Which makes a heck of lot more sense. LOL
