Ok, read this first. If you would rather not read it, the long and short of it is, Wal-Mart is pursuing its rights in an insurance settlement. Against a severely brain damaged woman who has lost her son to the fighting in Iraq.

The money in question, which by all parties involved, rightly belongs to Wal-Mart, is 470 thousand dollars. Wal-Mart... reported net... NET!!! Sales of 90 BILLION dollars in the third QUARTER of 2007. Not the whole YEAR... but JUST THE THIRD FUCKING QUARTER OF 2007. Wal-Mart has OPTIONS. They can choose not to pursue legal action, which does not set a legal precedent one way or another. They can win, and then be gracious and DONATE the acquired funds.

Or they can leave a husband penniless when he is trying to care for his disabled wife while at the same time mourning for his dead son.

Do these empty suits have ANY FUCKING IDEA WHAT THEY ARE DOING TO THE WAL-MART BRAND BECAUSE OF THIS?!?!

Are they so blinded to moderation and thoughtfulness that they cannot see that even though they can win this case, they'll lose?

Or is the big joke that since the average Wal-Mart shopper will never know about this, that they can afford to be mind-bendingly petty?

Why do I pay attention, any more? It's not going to get any better.

It makes me so sad to hear about this. A company that could afford to let this family live in the lap of luxury for the rest of their lives, sues them for all of the money that they have left, plus more. I think that it would definitely look better for Wal-Mart if they would have donated this money to them. But some people are so greedy that they can't see past the end of their own noses, and don't give a shit about anyone else. As long as they make it to the top, they don't care about anyone else that they may step on to get there.

I bet Sam Walton is rolling over in his grave. This isn't what he intended Wal-Mart to be.

Read this.

If you don't want to read that, it basically says that Wal-Mart has caved to public pressure. Basically, they figured out that the whole "subrogation" golden goose was about to be killed, with several members of congress expressing the wish to change the law to make this kind of situation not happen any more...

"Occasionally others help us step back and look at a situation in a different way. This is one of those times," Curran wrote in the letter.

There you go. Behold the power of the internets...

They let her keep the money...

...as if that rights all their wrongs...

Just a quick little story here...on my walmart experience....

I haven't shopped at a Walmart since 8-31-07. Even before that...I only went there for your basic necessity items because they are fairly cheap.......however this trip changed that forever.

I was shopping for make-up....bought a bunch of crap...TP, Cleaning Supplies, Shampoo etc....as well as some name-brand not so inexpensive make up. I had 2 different brands of the same make-up in the top of my cart because I was undecided. Both items were identical in type AND price.

Not to mention the make-up I actually PURCHASED was more expensive than what was in the top.

So I have this big messenger bag-purse. At some point while in line I was digging through it looking for my check book........and when I sat it down.....I ACCIDENTALLY sat it on top of the 2 things. Kind of like a bottom of the basket situation...totally forgot that they were there. On my way out the door I saw this kid who looked about 16 (probably more like 18-19) looking at me...I smiled at him and kept on going. He was kind of like Punk-Skater looking...spiky hair whatever....

So I get ALLLL the way out to my car....and I'm digging for my keys (purse STILL in the top) and this HUGE black dude GRABS my cart and says HEY. So I grab the cart like I'm gonna ram him because I don't know who the fuck this dude is...and I said Hey back........He asks if I forgot to pay for something....so now I'm like WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT. He told me to lift up my purse....and I was like SHIT.....I had like $300 CASH on me and I was like "dude, I'll go back in and buy the stuff right now..." He said okay and he walked back in with me....but when we get in....he grabs all my bags and those 2 items and walks into the office....so I follow him. I walk in and it turns out that that punk kid was "loss-prevention". So I tell them the whole deal...I'm totally cooperative. I was so embarrassed....

So through this conversation....this kid who obviously has a badass-complex because he is security at walmart (should we all be so lucky) goes "so....have you ever been busted for shoplifting before?" and I was like "NO....and I'm not BUSTED today. I told you what happened. Where do I pay for this stuff"

So in the meantime this other guy has my license and is typing away on this computer. No cops were called and it ended up "hey...you said it was an honest mistake...its cool...have a good day".

So I left. It was so stupid and ended up being fine. SO much so that I was joking wth my friends that I was a bad ass because I steal from walmart har har har....

Well like 2 weeks later.....I get this letter in the mail from some law firm...and it basically says to send them $200 to settle the "Retail Fraud" claim that occurred. I was like WTF. I called a lawyer and he basically told me to write them back a simple "No, because retail fraud didn't occur" letter. Haven't heard anything since. But I was pissed.

These two guys got their power complexes stroked by intimidating and humiliating me.....all for Walmart to try and make $200 bucks. Its fucking disgusting. Its such a simple thing....how many times have you walked out of a grocery store with detergent or tp or pop or something on the bottom of your cart. It was basically the same thing. Only a couple of losers think thier big shit grabbing people in the parking lot. Give me a break...and get a fucking respectful job.

I guess thats my little walmart rant. Its a big fucking money game....they treat people like crap....thier stores fuck people over continuously and then this type of shit I'm SURE happens all the time.

I actually refuse to shop at Wal-Mart. I think they're a dispicable (sp?) organization and I want them gone.

That's why the Wal-Mart episode of South Park is hilarious to me, because it's tongue-in-cheek while still making a good point.

I would seriously go hungry before shopping there.

Everything they sell is made in China, even the food, also they censor everything, for kids its a good thing, but for adults its not,let alone you will never find a George Carlin book there ever.and they treat their employees like crap.

A long story that is only, too, too painfully familiar.

Yeah. Guess what. I just finished 6 months of probation. Little something I didn't share with anyone until this moment.

I was at the Wal-Mart in Livonia last summer, and something similar happened to me. I happily cooperated with the people who were handling it in a nearly identical manner as you. Including the whole "sitting in the office while a guy types into a computer" thing.

Only in my case, I didn't get to leave and get a letter later. I was told I wasn't being arrested. But then after a call to some "higher-up," guess who shows up? Livonia's finest. And I ended up in handcuffs in the back of a cruiser.

Everybody except Wal-Mart seemed to think it was ridiculous that I got arrested. The officer processing me at the police station said my bail was exceptionally low for this kind of charge (Retail Fraud III).

I did some online research about this sort of thing to see if I should hire an attorney. And the overall consensus was "yes." So I e-mailed an attorney I worked for 20 years ago and she referred me to a great attorney, who cut his fee from $3500 to $1000 for me.

It was worth it because after court fees & costs totaling about $450 and the $1000 attorney fee, I am now record-free. As of last week Tuesday, my record is expunged and clear.

Since then, I have only stepped foot in a Wal-Mart out of some kind of necessity of convenience. And I will never go to the Livonia one again. When I happen to be in the area of the one in Woodhaven, I might stop in. But I feel hot, nauseated and paranoid every second I'm there. So I try not to.

I had already felt like I should be boycotting them due to their labor practices. But then last year, I learned about the woman who got the chemical burns from Wal-Mart flip-flops. If you haven't seen her website, please do click that link and check it out.

I was already leaning toward not shopping there anymore when I heard about that. After my personal hellish experience, it's really hard to get me to go there period.

thats so crazy because that is the ONLY walmart that I will step foot in. I used to live out there and that store is actually really nice....and the people who work there seem happy and nice themselves. Its mostly older people and middle class families there so you don't have to deal with what you do at say, the Taylor store.

I'm sorry that happened to you, what a mess. BOO at Walmart Security. Jerks.

HAHA I used to work at the Wal-mart in Taylor 01/02ish they get older folks to work their cause they dont care so much about pensions, insurance, unions, higher wages, raises ect... not to say its not important to them their just less likely to raise a fuss..... Walmart sucks ass and I will never shop there, i think I may have stoped in only cause i had no other choise about once or twice since I was forced to quit.... Here my story of what wal-mart did to me.....

I had been their just under a year, my mother was dieing of lung cancer. I had showed up to work every night up till the point my mother started getting rappidly worse... clearing 13 to 20 pallets of merch a night busting my ass basicly. well as my mother grew worse, my grandfather decided to let himself pass, he had copd, among other things and wasent supost to lay flat while sleeping, well I think he couldent handel one of his children going befor him so one night thats what he did... he slept flat and died. I took one week off for the funeral and to morn my grandfather and make sure my mother who was daddys girl was ok..(he died on April 4th) I returnded to work after... as my mother got worse I had to take a day off about 3 or 4 times with her being hospitalized at most, she passed one month later to the day of my grandfather dieing (May 4th) I then requested 2 weeks off to get things in order, her estate, grievement..... they said no problem if you need anymore time please let us know..... my husband who seen I was a wreck wisked me away for a week to florida...... as we were down their trying to relax we decided to move there..... their was wal-marts everywhere I could transfer.... we got home I went back to work, a few days later I inquired about transfering, put in the transfer... gave them 45 days notice..... 3 weeks later I was told my transfer went threw I was good to go, nice working with you and goodluck...... HA! we moved to florida, went to talk to the people at the wal-mart I had requested to be at they hadent heard of me knew nothing of me, and I no longer had a job...... with 3 kids to support I went from being ok to a holy hell of a wreck again.......... thank god for my husband ..if it wernt for him I would probly be in a padded room LOL
