Are we dead yet?

Did you not see where I explained that they are not actually doing collisions yet?

Even when they do...

And the worst case scenario does play out...

Meaning that it does create a Micro-Black hole... (3-11% chance that it happens, CERN even admits that on thier web page)

And it turns out that Hawkings was wrong... (Hawkings Radiation is an untested, un-proven theory, but it does explain alot)

it will be about 3 years before we see the first noticable effects of the Black Hole sucking up Earth. (it will be a "glow" in the India Ocean where the mantel is thinnest)

Lines up a world destroyed in 2012... Hrmm....

Have you not figured out when I'm kidding yet?

Oddly, Yahoo news was reporting that the collider was fully operational. Not smashing things doesn't sound very operational to me...

I know. Many news places are using that as a head line... do a bit more reading and you find out that it has to be calibrated. They have to adjust the magnetic fields to get the beam aimed in a perfect circle...

Really... have you ever heard of any machine getting turned on for the very first time ever and it not needing some fine tuning? Now imagine how complex this things is... granted, it did take under an hour to get the clock wise beam aimed right... It's still going to take weeks to get the aim perfect.

in the meantime. if you want to dispose of unneeded cash, property deeds please drop them by My office in Phee manor and I'll make sure their properly disposed for you

Mighty kind of you to offer to DGN such a charitable service.... If I had a sister... she would so be yours sir...

So you're saying that the world wouldn't be sucked up within hours, that it would take awhile? How come? (not debating you, just asking)

Also, why where the mantle's the thinnest? Why's that? Why wouldn't it happen where the actual CERN facility is?

Also, I'm under the understanding that we are able to detect blackholes. I know we can't see them, but I have a feeling that they would know when it happened because they even claim that they're trying to make micro black holes. So they would need to know when one was created. That said, I have a feeling they would notice before "3 years later". Why would it take them three years to detect it?

I even just read: ''Black hole production should light up the detectors like Christmas trees,'' Dr. Giddings said.

Because it would be after all, Sub-atomic, are first. It has to gain mass. Already being infinite density, (but really really small, so it's gravitational pull would not extend far) it would drop through the floor at the speed of light, boring a hole that grows in diameter exponentially as it sucks up matter along the way. It would drop to the bottom of Earths Gravity well within hours. There it would grow as it consumes the dense iron core. Eventually most of the magma would be gone and Earth would have a core of high energy matter swirling down into the Black Hole. At the Event Horizon, matter would be spinning near light speed, it would be bleeding energy as radiation and light... but most would go into the hole. The rest would start to heat the mantel as it was absorbed. Thats why the glow from the Indian Ocean. The Earth Quakes would start sometime after that. Leading to the collapse of the Earth into the Black Hole.

I did not say it would not be detected. I said the first noticeable effect. CERN would of course tell the World Body's and they might tell us. No matter what, the people would know eventually and the whole sale panic would set in. It would not be pretty... I'm not sure any people would be left to experience the final collapse at any rate.

*sssigh*

I really hope not. I can't help but be a bit weary of human "responsiblity" in the first place so to speak.

People ask me why I chose the name Chernobyl. The answer actually not being that it's one of the most awe-inspiring places I can imagine on Earth, which is also true, but rather it's a representation of what could possibly go wrong when science is pushed too far and human error is involved, how much can be destroyed and/or killed in the process.

I am still airing on the side that nothign with happen with the LHC, I really believe there won't be, but just the fact that a few handful of scientists are going to be operating a machine that could, even if it's an insignificant chance, destroy us all and yet we have no say makes me want to kill those people. How fucking selfish, really. Sure, it will be an advancement in science, but WHY do we need to know THAT bad? Look at how far humanity has come without knowing. And if there's no world left with anyone in it....then what the fuck would it matter what we've discovered?

What makes me more paranoid is that they're telling everyone that everything will be 100% okay and there's nothing to worry about, and as someone who totes the name Chernobyl...I'm very well aware that the same exact thing was told to the citizens of Chernobyl/Pritpyat by the Soviet Union even AFTER the accident when everyone was standing on their roofs being rained on with radioactive particles saying "oooh! Lookit the pretty cloud above the power plant!". Looks like they lied.

The LHC and QM in general are awesome, fascinating subjects. Luckily some random bizarre predictions occasionally perk up the public's interest... for a second. heh. Trying to brush up on my basic particle physics mysteries this week as it's been awhile. The next year or so will be amazing for science (as if every year isn't already) but in particular due to the LHC (read: all of humanity even if they don't care).

I've been waiting for this thing for a long time. Shortsighted as we are, this got built in Europe and not in the US.
