Good evening, or rather, morning!

I'm Rachel, friend of Jeremy (slingerlandstyx). He introduced me to this site and I've trolled around a couple of times. J escorted me to DBK's first performance (which was great!) and I had the pleasure of meeting a few DGN'ers I;ve heard so much about (Jadnifer & Dave, Chernobyl and partner (I REALLY suck at names!), beautiful lady in a pink satin tank top and of course DBK). I was going to wait til I went to CC again to sign up (for the first time in oh say 12 years) but what the hell.

About me: 31, swf, reside in Hamtramck, nerd to the core, naturally blonde curly hair (so Ungoth!) wear copious amounts of black clothing after living in NYC for 8 years but am now experimenting with color, techno addict in all it's various forms, snarky, opti-realist, freedom loving, tree-hugging, 1/2 greek 1/2 german, anthropology major atheist.

Am I goth? Lessee: Dictionary lists the meaning of Gothic to be the following:

1. noting or pertaining to a style of architecture, originating in France in the middle of the 12th century and existing in the western half of Europe through the middle of the 16th century, characterized by the use of the pointed arch and the ribbed vault, by the use of fine woodwork and stonework, by a progressive lightening of structure, and by the use of such features as flying buttresses, ornamental gables, crockets, and foils.

Love that type of architecture - check

Love France - check

Love flying buttresses - check

2. Germanic - check

Ok so goth is not exactly defined the way I'm betting it's represented on this board. Am I goth? Well I'm no yuppie. I love culture, language, history, music, dancing, urban exploration, writing, creativity, people who express themselves and a truckload of other things. Some goth, some perhaps not.

This is probably a good time to end this epic introduction post. Looking forward to meeting more of you, and dancing my ass off at one of the best clubs in Detroit. St. Andrews Hall Three Floors of Fun remains my number one, if only for the techno floor and the accompanying music, but happy to replace it with something better.

Exiting stage left, take care everyone! :welcome:

Great intro post. Hope to hear more from you. =)

That whole gang you listed off there are all friends of mine. Yay for social networking.

Definitely no need to be "Gothic" even by ones own definition (everyone has one, been debated for decades ad infinitum). Really no need to be from Detroit either. We just had to call the place something, and we generally do have people that tend to like "gothish" stuff and people that generally are from "Southeastern Michigan" but we also have people that in no way would be considered gothic nor do they even live in the USA i would say there is a mild disdain for people that "look down" upon goths or Detroiters, only in that way is DGN really a "detroit gothic" community . I'd guess probably less than 20% of the dgn population would consider themselves gothic honestly and some of our most active posters dont even live in michigan (although by far most do). In terms of "goth" itself i think of it more as an aspect than a overall summary. I'm "a Richard Dawkins fan" but thats just one aspect of my personality for example. Ok ok... /end speech

Anyhow welcome to the place, hopefully we can trick.. er, i mean, talk you into visiting us online/offline regularly.

LOL, Hi Troy, Thank you, I've heard MUCH about you from slinger and I am unafraid!

I'm most concerned with never being a poser if I can help it, so my personal (and admittedly high school) definition of goth and knowledge of myself might clash, but if the community isn't worried about it, then neither am I. Always on the lookout for great new friends, have a feeling I'll be a-makin some soon.

Namaste!

"I am unafraid" hehe. Being about as harmless as is possible with still being a male and all... hopefully that's a common opinion.

Honestly i think that's probably one of the main things that keeps people off DGN "I'm not really Gothic.." or "I'd join... but what are people going to think.. me being like.. not Gothic on a "goth" board?" How to combat that without just totally removing the gothic-slant I'm not totally sure. Other than to just make it as clear as possible that everyone is welcome.. well almost everyone, the rude people and such aren't welcome. =P

Oh and as soon as finances allow I'll be donating fundage. Which should be this week.

Wow thanks. Certainly can use all the donations we can get.

A'ight Troy, NOW how much do ya love me? LOL

Hey sweetie, welcome to the board. I'm looking forward to seeing your posts. And you just made Troy's day with the donation talk, no joke. A good chunk of the site's bandwidth money comes from his own pocketbook.

The others were HomicidalHeathen & her husband, and Ms. Heart. Chernobyl's man is Raven, Dave is Slutboy, if I'm not mistaken. (just a refresher)

Hamtramck the last whitey tighty oasis in the D lol

Welcome

You know, I see more Indians, Middle Eastern, Black and Hispanic people than I see white. I love it here because it's the closest thing to an NYC-feel I can find in the state, and I enjoy battling White Flight.

You want a white oasis, try anywhere in Oakland and Macomb counties. Scary!
