My Mother Was Diagnosed With Als Today...

Recommended Posts

I've started about write this post about 5 times. I don;t know what to say.

I understand. And thank you. I'm still numb and still trying to process it all. I walked around like a zombie at work. I just keep looking at my mom and trying not to cry. I can tell she is thinking about what is to come. How could she not. She's a R.N. She knows very well what is in store for her. I can't begin to imagine what she is thinking and how she is feeling. She has overcome so many other obstacles, and now this. I still haven't cried. I'm afraid if I allow myself to start, I won't stop. I'm just keeping focused on her and her needs and helping my daughter cope with it all.

And thank you, Kit Kat for your support. Thank you, again, everyone. You have no idea how much your words and thoughts mean to me and how much it helps to know that you are all here.

Thank you all. We are moving ahead. She began occupational therapy last week to try and learn to work with what little function she has. She sees her neurologist the first week of May and will get the referral for the second opinion then. A friend of mine has contacts and hooked me up with the name of the head of ALS research at U of M and she is taking on new patients still, so fingers crossed. In the meantime, my folks are getting their affairs in order and we are appreciating everyday with laughter and love. No moping is found here. She gets frustrated, but neither she nor the rest of us are wasting time moping.
