Harpo's... Is It Still Scary?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone been to Harpo's lately (i.e. last few years)? If so, is it still trashy and scary as it was back in the day? Friend is going to a concert and needs to know. I haven't been since... oh, since last century.

Its not too bad now... its more trashy then scarey....

They stopped using Neo Nazi's for securety about 8 years ago when the (thank goodness) changed management.

Harpo's is scary? try going to somewhere like the lager house..hehe well actually it wasn't scary either.. not THAT scary.. I always admire all the intricate designs that you just don't get in newer buildings these days.. *sighs*

Oh yeah! Back to Harpos.. no, I didn't think it was scary at all when I went there, In fact, there's a concert there that I'll probably be going to in the next few months. :) (which was a group I wouldn't imagine would be at Harpos) *shrugs*

word! yeah, i convinced my Ops Director that it's safe to go. :)

So, who's playing at Harpos?

Theory of a Dead Man.. they're not exactly the type of band that I would figure would be at Harpos.. but they'll be there eight days after my birthday .. yay!

It was a great band for us people who were going through a breakup..haha

I haven't gotten tickets yet, just pondering going.. ;)

Like I said, not the type of band that I would figure would be playing there, considering the last time I went there, I think I saw genitorturers.. (there were other bands after that, that i've seen there, but just pretty much local heavy metal/punk stufff).

Any problem at harpos is either handled by the moshers, or security (if it gets over the top). There are many problems (ppl not having respect, pushing women into the moshpit that don't wanna be there, purposely dumping other ppls drinks), that gets solved by the moshers.....it's not legal, but it gets most ppl to cut the shyt out. Some of the larger problems (fights, continued dis-respect, throwing punches in the pit) is handled by Security...and I, being a mosher, a promotor, and an average concert goer, will be one of hte ones that signal security in a heartbeat.

Other then that, yeah..the place needs more then a coat of paint, but the safety inside and surrounding the club is as good as your gonna get anywhere else.

That being said.....you risk your ride as much as you do anywhere else....so keep your ID and all money ON YOU...don't leave it in the car. I'm not saying to expect trouble..but I am saying BE SMART.

thats good cause i heard it was bad for black people so i never went and missed out on some killer concerts i have to there then :)

lol....well....I can see how you might think so....cuz of all the skinheads that go....but comon....Misconcieved is like the highest drawing local band at Harpos....and in case your not aware, Cyx, the lead singer, is about as black as it gets.....

I would, however, pick your concerts carefully....some concerts will have more punks/ goths/ metal heads, and then some will have more skinheads....i'm not saying to expect trouble...but life is chaotic, now isn't it? They can get rowdy, but I have yet to see them cause any kind of shyt outside of the moshpit...and Harpos pit...if you leave out all the small guys who think they HAVE to hardcore dance...has alot of respect in it.

I'm absolutely not saying that the majority of the crowd there would be racist...but I'm going to be totally honest here.....I think that your chances of running into a person or many persons who would give you a hard time are probably far more likely than at other concert venues. Its sad, I don't agree with it, but I think its unfortunately true.

    • ~~~~~ Yeah, thank you for the check-in.   Happy to say it was all a misunderstanding.  But she pulled out her "ghetto" and that's when things went South.  I get very professional minded when I enter into situations like that because when someone starts bring the court into conversations, I'm in court 2 times a year, every year, so don't go there with me because I will get legal all over you.   She did try to change what she thought she might have said, but I had to call her on it because it's all in written text.  Then she apologized and we were able to have a decent conversation.   I know I joke about me talking so much that people don't hear what I say except for keywords that they are looking for, but that is exactly what happened here.  She heard "payment", "money" and "help out".  It was crazy.  I literally had to have the entire conversation all over again, but I definitely condensed it to only address those 3 words.   Things are back on track, but I emphasized that if she every needed clarification for anything, please say something first instead of jumping to conclusions, then questioning that conclusion, then answering that conclusion, then getting upset at the answer and taking it out on someone who doesn't have a clue what the San Juan Hill just happened.   But this is exactly the reason I do everything with a paper trail.

    • I'm glad  that yesterday's day at work is long gone now. There was a very strong unusual energy that I felt, and couldn't get done with the day fast enough. It wasn't  the job at all. I just felt like I really needed to keep my mouth shut, to keep me from getting in situation(s) that probably wouldn't have ended well for me.
    • You can trust anyone you want.  The only question is whether or not they're deserving of that trust. No risk = no reward.  As such you have to let yourself be vulnerable sometimes and realize that all people will let you down eventually whether it's intentional or not.  The frequency that it happens is what's important.
    • Sorry, I don't check this as often as I should. Anyway document everything (although it sounds like @Trene4000already has been from her post.) It's okay to cry and break down, but not in front of them.  Never give them the satisfaction of seeing you crack.  If anything I'd go out of my way to piss them off, but I don't like being that guy either (and as such I'm not very good at it, except sometimes when I'm not intending to be.) I try to only help those whom deserve it, but that's often hard to judge.  Seeing how someone treats other people is a pretty good indicator of whether or not they're worthy.  Sociopathic narcissistic asshats are very much not worthy. I hope things are going well for you guys.
