Fierce Critter
It has been a very, very long time since I have had to shop for shoes for a special occasion. I'll be wearing this dress for an event at my parents' church celebrating landmark anniversaries for the year (It'll be our 10th this October): I am not real sure what kind of shoes to look for. I like that the dress has a medieval feel to it. It's silver/grey. If it weren't an occasion for which I want dressier shoes, I'd look for something in a flat, roman- or greek-style. But I think the dress is going to be very long, and I'll need a bit of a heel to keep it off the ground, and to make me look a bit more dressed up. I am not going to look at any heels, as I just don't want to deal with them. But I can walk in surprisingly tall wedges. And I'm looking at kitten heels, etc. I don't want them to be too "elegant," or chunky. I'm searching eBay a bit, and thusfar the shoes I've seen that I like the best are the following: I'm not crazy about the cork heel. But I could definitely paint just that cork wedge, maybe a shade of grey, so they'd be perfect. And change the lace to a silver one. I also like these: I'm really looking for some suggestions. The last footwear I've purchased over the past few years were medieval moccasins, walking sandals, knee-hi buckled platform boots, Emily's cats sneakers, and cat-faced ankle boots and Mary Janes. Guest Megalicious
It depends C. Will you be wearing any jewelry? What color? Do you want heal or no heal ( because I think it would look just as good with like a cute ballerina flat!)? So many shoes, so little time. =)
Brenda Starrr
Oh, the 1st ones are sweet! I love those!
Oh_My_Goth
Awesome Dress!!!!! Don't forget it can be perty cold in October..... This style is cute, in a charcoal or silver, I particularly like the heel: Personally, I would go with boots like these in charcoal.....
Rev.Reverence
Do you really WANT to wear heels? It does sound as if you will be on your feet quite allot that day... If you are set on heels, I like both pairs, BUT, the first pair has 'goldish' strings that don't match the dress, and the second pair you would probably need to wear some jewelry to match the nice sparkley bit on the toe... Amber... So the second pair wold be easyer to accessorize. Hope we helped...
TygerLili
I think silver ballerina flats with just a tiny bit of beading or detailing would look nice with this. Or maybe something with just a little open toe and a one inch heel. If it's in October you might want to skip the sandals. What other accessories are you going to have? A belt or a sash? A silver or beaded purse? Jewelry?
Fierce Critter
The event iself is May 4th. Jewelry - I'll probably wear either my chain mail necklace with matching earrings, or something with a bit of a medieval flair. I have a nice silver necklace with a pendant that is silver filigree with a green amber cabochon in the center that Jon gave me as a gift one year. I may go more simple with that. I have a lot of jewelry in my collection that would work, and I also do bead jewelry, so I might make something specifically to go with it. Those shoes/boots pictured above are too much of a Victorian style, so they wouldn't really work. But I LOVE the red ones and WANT!! Rev - if I got the 1st pair of shoes, as I mentioned above I'd probably remove that string and replace it with a silver one to match the rest of the shoe, and probably dye the cork heels to match as well. I don't want to wear a particularly tall spike or stelhetto heel. But a kitten or wedge heel would be fine. Right now, I am obsessing on the 1st pair above. I do like the 2nd pair, but I would feel obligated to always match my jewelry to that amber stone. Oh, and I just realized something. That round design is digging into the model's foot. I can see RIGHT NOW that I would end up with a raw, rubbed spot on the top of my foot & toes from that. So that pair is now out of the running. I am going to shop some of the Marshall's and TJ Maxx style stores before the event to see what they might have on the shelves. I recall they carry a lot of this sort of thing. jadnifer
I would suggest the first pair of shoes that you have pictured. However, I am definitely NOT a shoe expert, seeing as how I only own like two pairs of shoes!! Editing to add that I think that your dress is beautiful!! GothicRavenGoddess (3)
in all seriousness, there are a few styles in my wish list album that might work. but then again, they too, might be a smigen too victorian... hold on, lemme look... *runs away for a min* *returns* examples of styles that may work (this one is really similar, but not as extreme) also, here are some unique shoes that you may (or may not) like. I suggest exploring the entire site... I just happened to me looking that that particular page, when i made this post... lol Lady Oren's Medieval Shoes
creatureofthenyte
I can't really be much help on this subject, but I would strongly suggest wearing shoes that cover your toes. Wearing shoes that expose the toes, and kicking into something hard, is a painful experience; which is why I rarely walk around barefoot.
Fierce Critter
GRG - I need that 2nd pair of shoes just be-freaking-cause! I ended up bidding on and won the 1st pair of shoes above for $11.50, plus $9.99 shipping, so for $21.50 I got 'em. I'll be switching out the laces with silver ones and dying the cork heels silver to match the rest of the shoes. Open toes - I wear open toe sandals all the time. It's the height I'll have to get used to again. I stopped wearing heels when I quit working as a corporate clerical slave. Good thing they're basically wedges, which I've always found much easier to walk in than standard heels. Heh. Probably why I love my platform Demonias so much over the 4" high standard heel boots I can't stand.
