I would actually like to hear more gothic and darkwave music at a club. I love ebm and synthpop, but I wouldn't mind hearing some Projekt bands or nouveau goth/deathrock bands played once in a while too. I can dance to bands like Lycia and Bella Morte...

Honestly, I'd have a hard time going anywhere on Saturday night as a regular thing anyplace other than CC. I only get to go about once a month and there are so many people there it's always a fun time. I like a crowd.

I would love it if we could have a DGN meetup in another club on maybe Friday night. I'd love the chance to socialize with you all in a smaller setting.

I'd be happy with most any club setting as long as there aren't too many frat-boy idiots or preppy princesses wandering in. It seems some sort of dress code helps a bit.

Why was this moved?

Per the Nightlife FAQ:

... 'feeler out' posts (like, "hey, anyone want to meet at Starbucks and freak out the locals sometime?") goes in the Detroit Gothic forum. Of course, once you have a time set, feel free to post in [the Nightlife forum]

Thank you, carry on.

I have no ideas, I think everything is fine. Then again, I'm cynical and parochial.

I'm all for hitting up a goth club/night at another place, sometimes its good to break the CC tradition ( god help me :nut ) for a bit. I like your ideas about the music...heh, try not to overdo the Sisters of mercy/nosferatu type music. Don't get me wrong I do like the classics, its just that I'm all about some of the newer stuff these days.

Threads like these are difficult , as often people have their own ideas about what "DGN Night" should be, and you end up with so many conflicting ideas that it becomes difficult and people can get hurt feelings fairly quickly unfortunately if their particular idea isnt backed. I can see it comming already (happens like every few months to greater or lesser degrees) =(

Everything is prefaced with the fact that i have to try to do what i think is better for the longer-term, and the greatest number of "current DGNers" but also future , potential DGNers yet to come , as there are far more DGNers "to come" than there are "current DGNers".

What exactly are we talking about? One off? Weekly? Monthly? Special Event? Also factor in that many people , probably the silent majority, of "DGN club goers" , will never post in a thread like this. But these same people may show up in fairly large numbers, use the board in other ways, and tend away from what we, the fairly "hardcore" people would want. A DGN "regular night" needs to take this into consideration, as the event is not seprate from the board once its billed as a "DGN Night".

"DGN Night" has developed into what it is , for various reasons but a key one is its reliability and that it gets people in the same spot regularly. Its not conflicted with any other DGN "weekly events". It can be relied upon that "DGN night" is at X location on X night. No need to check an email or a board or a flyer to find out, its already established.

That's not to say we cant have a "gathering" every single night of the week somewhere, and make a post on DGN about it, every week (im all for that) just that "DGN Night" is at one place, weekly. Maybe one day that place may change, but even when it does, it will change fairly permanently so that it can be established again were DGN Night is, not a rotating , or helter-skelter changing location. Try to see it from the eyes of an infrequent poster who posts say once a month or some such for example, but knows when / where "DGN night" is.

hell we could have it like this (just an example)

Monday - Club A

Wed - Club B

Thurs - Club C

Friday - Club D

Sat - Club E "DGN Night"

But there would still be a single venue that would be "DGN Night" and we would want to focus a bit of attention on a single, weekly night. For reasons stated above (and others... just don't have the energy to dig up 5 years worth of posts at the moment)

If we are talking about a "Goth Night" in general, just for conversation sake...

My personal wish-list would be fairly long and actually counterproductive to DGN. I personally WOULD like to see something , somewhere with a dress code, for example. But, im not sure i could put the DGN seal of approval on it, as i think it gives a far too elitist message to people that don't know any better. ( again , unfortunately i have to be part politician. )

Splitting the party once in awhile can be fun, purposely dragging people away from DGN night, and billing it as a DGN night, on the same night as DGN night would be bad. (not that your doing that, its just something that we've had trouble with in the past , many times to greater or lesser degrees. Some even were NOT doing that, but seemed to be doing so to some observers.)

The above establishes "why a regular , weekly event at the same venue". " Why , city club on saturday?" is a seprate question. Answered in several different places, just dont have the energy at the moment to dig up the threads. Will when i get a chance.

Want to go somewhere for a change of pace? Feel free, theres no rule that says you have to go to "DGN Night".

The way the current (often changing) DGN political wind is blowing, i think the most likely (if any) change might be a night change, rather than a venue change.
