Unfortunately, I also suspect the options that will come out of the woodwork at that time will be highly suspect to being (and I apologize for this broad generalization, but seen it happen time and time again,) leaches and trophies. Rather than deal and be supportive during the worst time of training/career when I need to have someone to confide in the most, the options would wait until they see me as a final product, then grab everything they can. These type of toxic people I would like to avoid at all costs. I would like someone to make me feel...human when the training I will go through is very de-humanizing. To remind me that there is more than just work and sleep. Someone who would make me want to come home to see than volunteer to stay longer, just to avoid the tomb-like quiet of my place. Someone who would want to make me NOT volunteer for all holiday calls for lack of anything better to do during those times. For someone like that, I would bend as much as I can to make sure I could reciprocate the same things I ask of her as she endeavors on her goals. I always thought the same thing if I suddenly came into a large quantity of money. Pretty sad really. Therefore, we will have to make a community effort to get you noticed by a firm but sincere and appreciative lady before you finish your residency.
