TomCat
Hmmm...oughtta be a separate thread for rockabilly. Quite a few contemporary rockabilly artists who throw in that old country/honky-tonk/western swing style into their tunes. I concur Joey!!! Scales
I'm not a fan of country, I just can't get into it. Though lately I've been looking for music I like that is dark folk or dark and 'folkish' which is somewhat similar. No Cash right now because I've overplayed what I like of him. Here is what I have so far (tracks subject to change). Edited March 12, 2009 by Scales
jynxxxedangel
TOWNES VAN ZANDT. Soulrev
No 16 horsepower or Ghoultown? David I have you to thank for introducing me to 16 Horsepower. That is by far some of my favorite music out there. Too bad they broke up.

CixWicked
I love music from all different genres, be it country or anything else. Rather than put up artists (Who's pretentiousness never ceases to amaze me) i'm just gonna toss out some of my favorite lyrics. "We sing all the old songs Sing to grand momma road We sing cause we miss her And we're sad she had to go.." "I was born the night you kissed me And I died inside the day you left me But I lived, while you lived me" "... I won't be there to see the birth of our little girl. I hope she looks like you I hope she fights like me... And stands up for the innocent and the weak." "She put that bottle to her head, and pulled the trigger And finally drank away his memory Life is short, but this time it was bigger Than the strength she had to get up off her knees" "Fall... Go on and fall apart Fall into these arms of mine, I'll catch you Every time you fall Go on and LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSE it ALLL" "And I don't want to see you anymore I'm just not that strong I love it when you're here, But I'm better when you're gone" "We found him with his face down in the pillow With a note that said I'll love her till I die When we buried him beneath the willows The angels sang a whiskey lullaby" "I remember the day you left I remember the last breath you took right in front of me When you said that you would leave I was too damned stubborn to try to stop you or say anything" "She's a bubble bath and candles... 'baby come and kiss me' She's a one glass of wine, and she's feeling kinda tipsy" "She's a warm conversation I wouldn't miss for nothing, She's fighter when she's mad and a lover when she's loving" "If you're calling bout the car, I sold it If it's Tuesday night I'm bowling. If you got something to sell you're waisting your time Cause I'm not buying If it's anybody else, wait for the tone, you know what to do P.S. If this is Austen... I still love you. "She's a Saturday out on the town And a church girl on Sunday She's a cross around her neck And a cuss word 'cause its Monday" "I'm just drunk enough, to let go of my pain To hell with my pride, let it fall like rain from my eyes Tonight I wanna cry" The following is a motto of mine... "I hear them saying, You'll never change things. And no matter what you do it's just the same thing But it's not the world, that I am changing I do this so... the world will know It will not change me." Anything with great lyrics, and a decent enough rythem will capture my heart, regarless of the Genera... CixWicked

the eternal
Pulp Fiction has one of the best soundtracks I normally hate the country-ish sounding songs (as opposed to people like Cash or, WIllie Nelson, or Emmylou Harris) but I love the simultaneous patheticness and goofiness of this track http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2qAZXHROz8&feature=related Here's another. It's one of the first songs I ever got into. Another cheesy classic I love the guy that does the oom papa mow mow. He sounds a bit like Barry White and has my old hair style http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1DzlRvd0C4&feature=related
t1m3k1ll3r
I grew up around country music because my family is huge into country, but I don't really listen to much, except for Hank III, who is one of my favorite musicians of all time. Currently listening to Assjack too, which isnt country, but his metal/punk sideproject.

bav
Some of the later Snog albums are a very fun mix of acoustic-industrial-country. A little bit of cognitive dissonance but fun.
