You tell them you've been through the same problem and the teenager wishes to find out how you "got over" your problem. Merely lift up a part of your clothing to reveal a tattoo and say "I found something better to do with my time." (( This is a personal reference. I have had, and i should say still DO have a self-harming problem, but I prefer pulling through it by contemplating what tattoos I want to get and where.
