What Was The First Album You Ever Had?

My first "real music" record was almost certainly something by the Jackson 5. AFA kiddie records, my brother & I had a Dr. Seuss album with readings of "Fox in Sox" and "Green Eggs & Ham" that we listened to incessantly.

The first CD I owned was Metallica And Justice For All.

I can't remember if it was Mariah Carey or Michael Jackson...

MJ it was the single for "You Are Not Alone" and for Mariah it was that one that came out around the same time in 1994 that had all of her "big" songs on it, like Daydream and Fantasy...

Wow...I can't believe that not only did I just share that with you guys but I actually remember the years and the names of the songs

I will now hide behind my couch in shame :sofa:

The first one someone bought or me was "The Little Mermaid" soundtrack.

The first one I ever bought with my own money was............................................ Celine Dion's "Let's Talk About Love." Yes, that's the one with the Titanic song on it.

I found an entire forgotten old box of Sun and RCA records up in my Mamaw's attic, that had belonged to a great uncle who died many years before. I used to lock myself in the pumphouse for hours, and listen to them over and over on a Victrola I also found in the attic.

I remember "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On", with the B side being "I've Been Lookin' For You" by Jerry Lee Lewis, being one of my very favorites from that stash; as well as Waylon Jennings' "Green River" album. There were also a LOT of Elvis 45's in there, Buck Owens and Buddy Holly ones too, as well as some Sleepy LaBeef.

Must be where I got my passion for Rockabilly music from..

When I left for Vegas years ago, my maternal grandmother cleaned out her basement, and sold all my beloved (and quite VALUABLE, come to find out) records and Barbies and GI Joes in a f*cking yard sale. I could have just died!

As for the first album I ever purchased with my own money, it was the "Rock And Roll High School" movie soundtrack.

  • 3 weeks later...

My mother gave me a stack of old 45s - The Doors, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, the MC5, etc. and an LP of Hank Williams' Greatest Hits when I was around 5 years old. The first record I bought with my own money was Thriller by Michael Jackson.

Yes, I'm an old geezer.

my first kid records were:

some sesame street one, a christmas one and disco duck. i still have them.

my first real records were:

michael jackson, prince and madonna. which, i also, still have.

my parents had some records that are mine now; some of my favorites back then were:

the cars, the police, the rolling stones, the beatles, frank zappa, lynyrd skynyrd, bing crosby (x-mas music), pat benetar, roxy music, queen, pink floyd, david bowie.... i should stop now, these have nothing to do with "first album"

The first albums that I ever owned (but didn't buy myself) were The Little Mermaid soundtrack and every album ever released by the Monkees. I also owned a lot of things by the Beach Boys, the Mamas and the Papas, and tons of other oldies. I was raised on oldies, but hey, I don't see anything wrong with that. :D

    • I am currently floored.   FedEx did a massive 6 box delivery to the wrong address.  I had an autoship order scheduled to arrive before this past weekend.  Nothing showed up.  I contacted the order site and they had a link for the order...a photo of all my boxes thrown in the snow and up the sidewalk of a residence that was not mine.   You would think that at some point, the driver would have looked at the delivery address after they kept throwing box upon box at this location with no shelter from the elements.  They didn't even knock on the door to inform the residents that massive 65+ pound boxes were left all over their walkway.  Nope.  Just dumped them, took a photo as they were walking away and left.   I wonder what the person who found all of those misdelivered boxes must have been thinking when they saw them.  Maybe they kept everything to use, distribute or sell.  No idea.  No claim was filed on that end as of yet.   Fortunately for me, one of the sites that I ordered from, replaced everything at no extra cost.   Unfortunately, now I'm concerned for the other items yet to be delivered.   Needless to say, I'll be watching my notifications like a hawk.
