Songs that make you cry

I'll Be All Smiles Tonight, (a British Isles waltz from the 1870's, made popular by the Carter Family in the Appalachians)

Yes, I am a gothic redneck, but this is the music I was raised on. It's sad, and sweet, and beautiful; perfectly fit for a gothic tragedy. Here is a song that brings a tear to my eye each time, because I have been in the same position as the lady who wrote this song-- present for the nuptials of someone I still loved. This version is by the Apple Pleasant String Band, and it leaves out the final verse and repeat chorus, as I learned it. It was still the most complete version I could find.

I'll deck my brow with roses

The loved ones may be there

And gems that others gave me

I'll wear within my hair

And even them that know me

Will think my heart is light

Though my heart will break tomorrow

I'll be all smiles tonight.

I'll be all smiles tonight, love,

I'll be all smiles tonight

Though my heart may break tomorrow

I'll be all smiles tonight.

And when the dance commences

Oh how I will rejoice

I'll sing the song you taught me

Without a failing voice

When the flattering ones come 'round me

They'll think my heart is light

Though my heart may break tomorrow

I'll be all smiles tonight.

I'll be all smiles tonight, love,

I'll be all smiles tonight

Though my heart may break tomorrow

I'll be all smiles tonight.

And when the room he enters

Wit the bride upon his arm

I'll stand and gaze upon him

As though he was a charm

And once he smiled upon her

As once he smiled on me

They'll know not what I suffer

They'll find no change in me.

I'll be all smiles tonight, love,

I'll be all smiles tonight

Though my heart may break tomorrow

I'll be all smiles tonight.

And when the dance is over

And all have gone to rest

I'll think of him, dear mother

The one that I love best

He once did love, believe me

But now he's cold and strange

He sought not to deceive me

False friends have brought this change

I'll be all smiles tonight, love,

I'll be all smiles tonight

Though my heart may break tomorrow

I'll be all smiles tonight.

Sinead O'Conner - Three Babies

My three babies

I will carry with me

For myself

I ask no one else will be

Mother to these three

And of course

I'm like a wild horse

But there's no other way I could be

Water and feed

Are not tools that I need

For the thing that I've chosen to be

In my soul

My blood and my bones

I have wrapped your cold bodies around me

The face on you

The smell of you

Will always be with me

Each of these

My three babies

I was not willing to leave

Though I tried

I blasphemed and denied

I know they will be returned to me

Each of these

My babies

Have brought you closer to me

No longer mad like a horse

I'm still wild but not lost

From the thing that I've chosen to be

And it's `cause you've thrilled me

Silenced me

Stilled me

Proved things I never believed

The face on you

The smell of you

Will always be with me

Each of these

My three babies

I will carry with me

For myself

I ask no one else will be

Mother to these three

"Forever Young" by Alphaville

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZswmHokbo1c

Let's dance in style, lets dance for a while

Heaven can wait we're only watching the skies

Hoping for the best but expecting the worst

Are you going to drop the bomb or not?

Let us die young or let us live forever

We don't have the power but we never say never

Sitting in a sandpit, life is a short trip

The music's for the sad men

Can you imagine when this race is won

Turn our golden faces into the sun

Praising our leaders we're getting in tune

The music's played by the mad men

Forever young, I want to be forever young

Do you really want to live forever, forever and ever

Forever young, I want to be forever young

Do you really want to live forever? Forever young

Some are like water, some are like the heat

Some are a melody and some are the beat

Sooner or later they all will be gone

Why don't they stay young

It's so hard to get old without a cause

I don't want to perish like a fading horse

Youth's like diamonds in the sun

And diamonds are forever

So many adventures couldn't happen today

So many songs we forgot to play

So many dreams swinging out of the blue

We let them come true

Forever young, I want to be forever young

Do you really want to live forever, forever and ever

Forever young, I want to be forever young

Do you really want to live forever, forever and ever

Forever young, I want to be forever young

Do you really want to live forever?

Furnace Room Lullaby - Neko Case

All night, all i hear, all i hear's your heart

How come, how come

I twisted you over and under to take you

The coals went so wild as they swallowed the rest

I twisted you under and under to break you

I just couldn't breathe with your throne on my chest

All night, all i hear, all i hear's your heart

How come, how come

So far under the bed

Into the beams you've gone

I've gone, you've gone

I'm wrapped in the depths of these deeds that have made me

I can't bring a sound from my head though i try

I can't seem to find my way up from the basement

A demon holds my place on earth 'till i die

All night, all i hear, all i hear's your heart

How come, how come

So far under the bed

Into the beams you've gone

I've gone, you've gone

All night, all i hear, all i hear's your heart

When Im depressed and feeling down over that xertain someone this is the song I play to cry him away.

Korn - Cry For You

You know I can't believe you,

all the things you say,

they're not true. [oh oh oh]

But I fear I can't just leave you.

All I feel is that I need you my love.

This is all my spirit can take,

anymore and I will surley meet decay.

Won't you reach out and touch my heartache,

feel it beating, please don't throw it away.

I can't believe your careless lies,

your burning eyes, pass through me.

I never thought our love would die,

but how could I, I could not see.

Baby girl you know I need you,

can't believe that you would leave me this way.

If my pain will not appease you,

so it please you I've got nothing to say.

I now begin to realise,

you're not the girl I once knew.

But deep beneath those hollow eyes,

reasons that die in part of you, of you.

I will cry, cry for you, for you, I will cry, cry for you.

Come on though you shut the moon out,

as though it were bright as sun in the day.

I would crawl through a demention in your head,

you would show me a way.

I can't believe your careless lies,

your burning eyes, pass through me.

I never thought our love would die,

but how could I, I could not see.

See for you,

I will cry, cry for you, for you,

I will cry, cry for you, for you,

I will cry, cry for you, for you,

I will cry, cry for you, for you,

I will cry, cry for you.'

I don't cry like a normal person unless I'd be under some sort of intense pain. But some songs might make me shed a few tears if it's a really good song I'm listening to for the first time. Some songs I find particularly emotive are:

Dead Flag Blues" by Godspeed You! Black Emperor,

Babylon was Built On Fire/Starsnostars by A Silver Mt. Zion,

Everything Dies by Type O Negative,

Gary Jules's version of Mad World,

"Starless and Bible Black" and "I Talk To The Wind" by King Crimson,

Pure by London After Midnight,

One by Metallica,

Adam's Song by Blink 182.

I Am Stretched On Your Grave (an old Irish traditional)

Me too!!

I would cry too, if I had to listen to Chicago... :rofl:

LOL!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Okay......this one makes me cry every time. My best friend, Jen, worshipped Richard Kruspe, so this song is a double punch to the heart because not only do the lyrics make me sad, but the singer always reminds me of her. Jen killed herself earlier this year, and the part where I always get choked up is with "I'm so glad that you've stayed" because she didn't. Everything the song says is what I had said to her before, but I will always wish that I could say that last line again to her in person. Fucking tears.
Where were you (When the world stopped turning) - Alan Jackson
Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day
Out in the yard with your wife and children
Working on some stage in LA
Did you stand there in shock at the site of
That black smoke rising against that blue sky
Did you shout out in anger
In fear for your neighbor
Or did you just sit down and cry
Did you weep for the children
Who lost their dear loved ones
And pray for the ones who don't know
Did you rejoice for the people who walked from the rubble
And sob for the ones left below
Did you burst out in pride
For the red white and blue
The heroes who died just doing what they do
Did you look up to heaven for some kind of answer
And look at yourself to what really matters
I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith hope and love are some good things he gave us
And the greatest is love
Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day
Teaching a class full of innocent children
Driving down some cold interstate
Did you feel guilty cause you're a survivor
In a crowded room did you feel alone
Did you call up your mother and tell her you love her
Did you dust off that bible at home
Did you open your eyes and hope it never happened
Close your eyes and not go to sleep
Did you notice the sunset the first time in ages
Speak with some stranger on the street
Did you lay down at night and think of tomorrow
Go out and buy you a gun
Did you turn off that violent old movie you're watching
And turn on "I Love Lucy" reruns
Did you go to a church and hold hands with some stranger
Stand in line and give your own blood
Did you just stay home and cling tight to your family
Thank God you had somebody to love
I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith hope and love are some good things he gave us
And the greatest is love
I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
And the greatest is love
The greatest is love
The greatest is love
Far Away - Nickelback
This time, This place
Misused, Mistakes
Too long, Too late
Who was I to make you wait
Just one chance
Just one breath
Just in case there's just one left
'Cause you know,
you know, you know
[CHORUS]
That I love you
I have loved you all along
And I miss you
Been far away for far too long
I keep dreaming you'll be with me
and you'll never go
Stop breathing if
I don't see you anymore
On my knees, I'll ask
Last chance for one last dance
'Cause with you, I'd withstand
All of hell to hold your hand
I'd give it all
I'd give for us
Give anything but I won't give up
'Cause you know,
you know, you know
[CHORUS]
So far away
Been far away for far too long
So far away
Been far away for far too long
But you know, you know, you know
I wanted
I wanted you to stay
'Cause I needed
I need to hear you say
That I love you
I have loved you all along
And I forgive you
For being away for far too long
So keep breathing
'Cause I'm not leaving you anymore
Believe it
Hold on to me and, never let me go
Keep breathing
'Cause I'm not leaving you anymore
Believe it
Hold on to me and, never let me go
Keep breathing
Hold on to me and, never let me go
Keep breathing
Hold on to me and, never let me go
Holy shit.. this WAS me and my girl's song before we broke up for her hooking back up with her ex behind my back. I'm stuck in iraq, and this is what happens... she just started dating him and wouldn't respond to my messages or answer her phone for a week. then i pick call last night, and it's her "boyfriend" who answered...
so yeah.. this song still makes me cry.. but now for a whole new reason.
I Can't Make You Love Me. by Bonnie Raitt
I Can't Make You Love Me
Turn down the lights, turn down the bed
Turn down these voices inside my head
Lay down with me, tell me no lies
Just hold me close, don't patronize - don't patronize me
'Cause I can't make you love me if you don't
You can't make your heart feel something it won't
Here in the dark, in these final hours
I will lay down my heart and I'll feel the power
But you won't, no you won't
'Cause I can't make you love me, if you don't
I'll close my eyes, then I won't see
The love you don't feel when you're holding me
Morning will come and I'll do what's right
Just give me till then to give up this fight
And I will give up this fight
'Cause I can't make you love me if you don't
You can't make your heart feel something it won't
Here in the dark, in these final hours
I will lay down my heart and I'll feel the power
But you won't, no you won't
'Cause I can't make you love me, if you don't
This song just gets me. That's all.
This was mine and my ex Dj's song. Today would have been our two year anniversery. Needless to say, these days this song makes me cry.
Good Enough - Evanescence
Under your spell again
I can't say no to you
crave my heart and its bleeding in your hand
I can't say no to you
Shouldn't have let you torture me so sweetly
now I can't let go of this dream
I can't breathe but I feel
Good enough
I feel good enough for you
Drink up sweet decadence
I can't say no to you
and I've completely lost myself and I don't mind
I can't say no to you
Shouldn't have let you conquer me completely
now I can't let go of this dream
can't believe that I feel
Good enough
I feel good enough
its been such a long time coming, but I feel good
and I'm still waiting for the rain to fall
pour real life down on me
cause I can't hold on to anything this good
enough
am I good enough
for you to love me too?
so take care what you ask of me
cause I can't say no
30kft by A23...
it can knock me on my ass, no matter how good a mood i'm in...
music is probably one of the only things can actually make me cry, its not that i'm not emotional, i just have the awful habit of getting angry first.
hence the love of music, it take away the angry feelings and makes you cry like a baby... lol
Perfectly Flawed
Otep
if you do this
if you do this you'll never have a chance to try again.
if you do this you'll never have a chance to try.
It's the same sound
same sting.
The same collapse
of every thing.
It's the same slice,
same blade,
the same lie,
same old vein.
My way
my face
my heart
my race
I'm a mistake.
My way
my face
my heart
my race
I'm such a disgrace.
You're perfectly flawed
You're perfectly incomplete
like cracks in the glass
and faded photographs
You're perfectly flawed
You're perfectly incomplete
Let them come near when
Imperfections make you unique
Let them, let them loose
just try again
Let them, let them loose
just try again
its the same doubt,
the same dream
it's the same sabotage
'cos i'm the enemy
it's the same night
same day
it's the same parasite,
feeding on the betrayal.
my way
my face
my heart
my race
im such a disgrace
You're perfectly flawed
You're perfectly incomplete
like cracks in the glass
and faded photopgraphs
You're perfectly flawed
You're perfectly incomplete
A work in progress
Imperfections make you unique
A disguise of self-deception
hides my secrets perfectly
i'm rejecting my reflection
'cos i hate the way it judges me
Don't you do it
you're not even you yet
Don't you do it
you're not even you yet
You're perfectly flawed
You're perfectly incomplete
like cracks in the glass
And faded photographs
You're perfectly flawed
You're perfectly incomplete
A work in progress
Imperfections make you unique
Stop - Pink Floyd
Stop!
I wanna go home
Take off this uniform
And leave the show.
But I'm waiting in this cell
Because I have to know.
Have I been guilty all this time?
That whole album(TW) makes me cry. Hence why I don't listen to it much anymore. It leaves me an emotional mess...
