Indiana Jones 4

Recommended Posts

My younger brothers and I are supposed to see Indy 4 tonight. I am such a huge fan of the first three, but we're a little skeptical about this one since Ford is so old and since special effects these days are completely different than those of the 80's. We decided that we're at least going to give part 4 a chance. I'll post a review as soon as I can.

Who here wants to see Indy 4?

Who here does NOT want to see Indy 4?

Who here has already seen it?

Discuss.

EDIT: Oh, one more thing... Please say *SPOILER* before posting so any spoilers you don't ruin this movie or those who haven't seen it yet!

I want to see it! I use to love Indiana Jones as a kid, but I would call him Nana Nana Jones because I couldn't say Indiana. I still do to this day.

So yeah I can't wait to see Nana Nana Jones 4!

Got my tickets already! I'm going Memorial day with my mom who is in town for graduation for my oldest, and my youngest daughter - we all love the ol fella!

I'm looking forward to it and I don't care what the critics say and all the nitpicky crap they are finding wrong with it - I just want to have a good time and as long as they entertain me with a bit of Indy style adventure for a couple hours I will be pleased.

Saw it opening day right after work. I agree with Roger Ebert. There were a few things I could've done without, however. First off, that whole

nuclear bomb

scene. A bit over the top. Next, Mutt Williams is not

Tarzan

. Finally, did that ending remind anyone of

"The Mummy Returns"

? Everything else I could live with.

Most of the movie was actually really good and there were some phenomenal scenes. When Indy and the other professor are at Indy's home reflecting on how old they're getting and reminiscing on former times and there's the picture of Henry Jones and Marcus Brody ... great scene. I loved Mutt/Indy scene in the diner, they're escape from KGB, and the proceeding motorcycle chase scene. All great stuff.

Overall, a worthwhile movie. One I will see again and own on DVD. Then again, I am a huge Indy fan. How many other people do you know with a brown leather fedora and a bullwhip (who's really good at using it)? Make that seven bullwhips with two more on order.

I really think speiberg needs to get on some serious meds.

Spielberg just directed it so don't direct any of your ire at him. Lay blame where it's due. Screenplay credit goes to David Koepp with story credit to George Lucas and Jeff Nathanson. If you don't like how the

aliens

were portrayed, then you can blame Spielberg but if you simply don't like the fact that they were in the movie in the first place, then you have to blame the other guys.

I saw it. I like the dieselpunk'ish atmosphere it has. I do have a few bones to pick with it though. Like Spook, I think the

Tarzan scene was insane. Come on, up in the trees for 20 seconds, and the monkeys empathize with you, and what? Telepathically communicate to assist you in kicking some ass?! WTF. Not to mention being able to swing thru the trees fast enough to catch up with moving vehicles???

Insane.

I also wasn't much of a fan of the way the

Mayan's and Inca cultures seemed to be lumped together I was under the impression they were two distinct and individual peoples who had little or no contact.

The

fridge

scene was a little over the top. Who could have survived that?

I'm being picky though. It was a fairly good movie loosely based on the crystal skull myth, and I knew going into it I would have to do some belief suspension. Overall, it successfully numbed my brain from the drudgery of ordinary life and was entertaining to boot, so I recommend.

I agree with most of the complaints and praise on here. I wasn't expecting much with Ford's age and all the shitty movies flying around these days, but I wasn't too disappointed with this. Overall, it was an entertaining and decent movie, but it wasn't perfect. I'd give it an A- or B+.

Surprisingly, I was pleased with the special effects in this flick; I was glad that the whole movie wasn't made on a computer. I prefer the special effects in old movies over newer ones because the newer ones go so over-the-top with the computerized stuff. Honestly now, when I watch a movie, I want to see some real action, not shit that some kid made on a computer; this is the biggest reason why I can't get into most new action flicks these days. That sucks because I was such a huge fan of action flicks as a kid -- Indy, Steven Seagal (even though his movies are cheesy as fuck), you name it and I loved it. For an old man, Ford did a great job! The other actors did as decent job as well.

One complaint I have is with Karen Allen's appearance. She has obviously had so much plastic surgery that she is hardly recognizable. Other than that, it was nice to see Marion come back.

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

But yes, the whole alien thing was freakin' dumb. I looked at my little brothers and said, "Aliens? WTF, are you serious?" That is definitely something I could have done without.

Saw it with my dad last week. I had high hopes... unfortunately.

I will say that I haven't seen the other movies in like what? 10+ years? So my memory of how great the first two were might be confused in the mists of childhood. Several movies that i remember liking as a kid have been disappointing after i re-watched them as an older person.

It wasn't totally horrible, but i wouldn't recommend it. Especially if you run in the more artsy-film type circles which typically cannot stand "popcorn movies" to begin with .

I'd say go see it for completion sake if you've already seen the first 3, otherwise don't bother.

I really liked this one, in spite of myself. I went in there, with the mindset that it was going to suck. Hard. I was pleasantly surprised. I thought that Ford's performance was the best he's done in years, the pacing was spot-on, and I think that they adhered to the spirit of the genre quite well. This last bit is what 99% of the people I talk to seem to miss. This is supposed to be pulp adventure! It's supposed to be over-the-top unbelievable! The bit with the snake and the quicksand was pushing it, but still within the scope of the genre, IMO. The plot revolving around aliens was appropriate to the time period and I thought they did the right thing by using real crystal skull history and using it as a jumping-off point.

Anyway, compared to what I was expecting from Spielberg and Lucas, who seem to be going a bit off the deep end in their advancing age, this was a wonderful surprise.

My $0.02.
