I should be able to start up ye old informal MTG night at my place by July.... They is still rebuilding my house... If they aren't done by July...heads must roll.

Anywho, Medea plans to bring her RPG groups over to meet at the house (she's the new roomie soon). So, I'll be in geek heaven!

*looks for a geographic location* *fails* lol

when i get my decks back i will play, that is when i get them back. i never can hold onto decks for long.

Take $5 to a local hobby store that sells cards. Poof new decks. (If we don't care about actual formats, commons are a dollar a pound)

:p

I lives at 8 and Southfield in Southfield. I will post about dates as soon as said house is back together.... my kitchen is lacking counters and my living room has a furnace in it.

Table and chairs is all thats needed! =P (or even just a flat surface if the geeks are hardcore enough lol)

4th Edition D&D Just came out this month... random thought. :)

BWHAHAHAHA....It's at my house RIGHT NOW and you don't have it.

Yeah, we don't do Magic, but we have an OFFICIAL D&D night on Saturdays with myself, our DM (who will be joining DGN shortly under the name Timata), Raven, DM's girlfriend, and Rev. Reverence. Fun fun :animier:.

No it's not.

It's at my house.

Anyway, I used to play Magic back in the day. Still have a few cards sittin around somewhere. I also played Wow:tcg and almost any other card game out there. I'd be up for a geek night as long as it doesn't interfere with D&D.

I can only do type I right now though, can't afford any new cards atm

Type I? Do you have power 9 and such? Random chaff cards of any format you can get a whole deck for like 5 bucks if your not all that concerned about winning. The problem with Type I is that no one ELSE can afford it hah. :p Even 1.5 is fairly scary price wise.

Usually what gets played rather than type I (Called Legacy nowadays) is "Vintage" which is the old 1.5, that is all the restricted cards are banned. Just about anything that is legal in Type I is legal in Vintage (1.5) except the really uber expensive power cards So its basicly type I minus all the $100+ cards.

Right now my collection consists of a bunch of random cards . . .

I think the most recent set i have is mercadian masques or ice age, lol. I had cards all the way up to something of kamigawa (the set had samurai and spirits, was really heavy on legendarys), but all those cards are gone now

Did I say the wrong type? its been so long since i played.

Well i think you said what you meant to say. Type I (Legacy) means basicly "you can play any random cards you want from any set" (minus some cards that are banned) But the really scary cards from Type I are pre-ice age and cost hundreds of dollars, and you can only have 1 of each (instead of 4) the "only one of each" thing means they are restricted. So if you just play type 1.5 .. which is Type I except all of the uber expensive restricted cards are banned, your not in danger of having to play against the $200 moxes and $500 black lotuses.

But if you just have like random cards from Ice age onward, which many of us do, you probably could slap together a decent deck for casual play, which usually isnt any "type" at all, its just "well play whatever jank you wana play unless the group thinks its too overpowered" playing against a random group of kitchen table players.

I'm trying to get back into standard Friday night magic tournament play but its taking me awhile to figure out where the money is gonna come from, since even the cheapest Standard type II deck still costs like $200.

This here shows the different formats and what is allowed in each:

I've never really been on the tourney scene, did sealed pack alot a few years back.

I played cafeteria table magic.

Modified house rules, let's just say we got in around 4-5 games in 25 minutes while eating lunch

Yes I do know the official rules as of 2006. (would have to look up any changes on wizards, but i can do that while I'm looking at D&D stuff for the new edition)

Normally my first choice is always black but for some reason that one just looks kinda "dull" to me. The "white" one (which is basically silver) seems to look the best maybe followed by the red one (which looks purple). I was told by some guys that i talked to tonight that the "blue" one looks the best, which basically looks black in real life with a blue shine to it and that the picture makes it look more blue than it actually is.

I went down to Pandemonium in Garden City today, oddly feeling fairly decent health wise for once. I was in shock, there was like 10 people down there playing "casual" magic ranging from brand new players to near-experts. Everyone was really nice.

Two of the guys made a detailed argument why Playmats, which i thought were just for goofball kids, were good if your playing on a non-tablecloth type surface. Odd. I always assumed playmats were just a waste of money. (even though they often look pretty)

I actually managed to scrape some money together for a decent deck, so anyone that doesn't live 9 billion miles away and wants to meet up at Pandemonium in garden city M-Th (they are open until midnight) that is reasonably serious, that is wants to actually play and learn the proper rules, might want to look into it. :)

I find this statement to be hilarious.

By the way, welcome to DGN. I'm glad you've decided to check yourself in. :)

You'll find, and some of you may already know, that i am the definition of geek. I should have phrased it differently because every night is geek night. I D&D, Rolemaster, Harp, I do CCGs, I play WoW, Retrogaming, Ren Fests (when i can get the money), Minis games, and anything else considered slightly geeky. . . (I wonder if DDR counts. . . *waits on comment from Chernobyl*)

I played it when it first came out but I couldn't find enough different people to crush so I could maintain interest. I still have some series one cards some place.

I also use to play the V:TM card game when it was still called Jihad.

I used to play MtG all the time back in the day lol and still have all my old cards floating around the house.

Yeah it seems theres two kinds of people in the world:

1. People have played magic in the past.

2. People that currently play magic.

The rest aren't really people. :gathering:
