AH...an etymologist eh?...

Kinda.

I have a theory that about 25% of wars can be averted if people would simply try to be 100% clear as to their intentions.

Unfortunately even I find it extremely difficult avoiding verbal short hand and there by misunderstanding.

25% is not low if you take into account that about 50% of war could be averted if the WORLD mad the Bible, Koran, and the Torah illegal (yeah like that could happen) then think of the rest of war as bing warranted. You know water, food, menerals blah blah blah. You wont share then we will take it.

Ultimately it all boils down to women. I have to stop now before I hijack this thread further.

I don't think a discussion about finite resources could be complete without a discussion on war and its causes, vater...

See what I mean about lack of clarity?

I was speaking as to how war pertains to women.

Though resources or lack there of still boils down to them.

Yes, but the fact is, it is a personal choice to not have electricity on this continent. Now, granted, some households may be under dire, dire, dire poverty, and cannot AFFORD electricity, but chances are, if they COULD afford it, they WOULD have it.

North America, for all practical purposes, is completely electrified. I should have qualified my statement, but the fact of the matter is, that this is still a straw-man.

so hold up...your going to say that a faction of American society, such as the Amish, would have electricity if they could afford it....and then your saying that they must be in dire, dire poverty because they do not have electricity??

My cousins in AZ...one is a university teacher and the other is a biophysicist. They CHOOSE to not have electricity in their Adobe house, because they do not need it. It has nothing to do with poverty, and i take offense to the fact that you are making remarks along those lines. Their are a respectable number of the American population that live without electricity...and there are even more of a respectable number of large publications that show you HOW to make the most of it.

I am not saying that it is an ABSORBENT amount of people, but I am saying there is a respectable number that make the CHOICE not to have electricity, and that choice is not based on their income, or any possible lack there-of.

Point taken...BUT..statistically speaking they (non-impoverished, non-Amish/Quaker) are very small, nearly invisible...

..a fraction of a percent.

completely understood...but not acknowledging that percentage is as much of a crime as grouping cases of mental disorders and treating based on the group...and both of us have had that conversation, cousin.

Really? REALLY? Everybody knows what I am talking about. Everyone knows what I mean when I say that North America is for all practical purposes completely electrified.

I have already conceded that I should have qualified my statement. Everyone knows that the Amish don't WANT electricity.

You... are beating a dead horse, and revealing to everyone that you have no substantive argument, and as such, have to cling to logically fallacious debate topics like straw-men in some sad, pathetic, pathological need to save face.

WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO "WIN" AN ARGUMENT ON THE INTERNET?!? /quote]

I was not trying to "win" anything....nor was I trying to piss off anyone....are YOU really that so devoid of validation that you need to tell everyone that their points are straw men and dead horses???

I was simply pointing out that there are people with lifestyles that, while are not anywhere near a large amount, don't follow much of what you have been saying. I am simply pointing out that there ARE people out there.

you think that making me try and look like I am pathetic and use nothing but "straw men" will validate everything you say....and all it is doing now is making you look very close-minded, crude, and...well, frankly...an asshole.

I was not arguing with you....I was making a statement based on personal facts....something you can't seem to do.

Whatever, these are going to get deleted any ways. Hell, if they don't get deleted, well, it will show that I am trying to be the adult here.

Ok, fine. I was WRONG when I said that every household in North America has electricity. You were RIGHT to point out that it was WRONG. You caught me. I screwed up.

There you go. Are you HAPPY now?

I think the deeper issue is WHY you think I'm out to get you...cuz I'm not....and I think your missing something that makes you think that I am trying to CONSTANTLY prove you wrong.

I will admit that the number of households that CHOOSE not to use electricity will hardly show up on any kind of statistical chart....thats a given...all day, everyday...but to COMPLETELY disregard the existance of such households in reality...well, as I said before...thats a crime.

Try to keep the yelling and screaming to a minimum (read non-existent) when making your points please. There's no debate on this subject, read the DGN rules or PM me if the DGN rules are confusing.

I have a theory that says that if there was no such thing as organized religion, there would almost NEVER be war.
