Hocico

(I hope it's okay to start a new thread about just one band..)

Does anyone like Hocico? I am curious as to their reputation in the States. I notice that the US was like the only country they're not stopping in at on their current world tour. What's up with that? Are they not popular here? The US is way closer to Mexico than Japan or Europe, but no tour date in the States. Does anyone even know them here? I got the impression in Japan that they were super popular and well-known, so what's up?

Sorry if the answer is really obvious and I'm just clueless, like maybe they just had a US tour or something?

If this is the band, sounds pretty cool, I peeked at them. Always into looking for new sounds.. I like it.

EDIT TO SAY: you're always welcome to start whatever thread you want. :) That's what we're here for.

Yeah that's them. They're really good, I think. They were positively amazing in concert. I liked them better in concert than on the CD - though I like the CD too. I only have their newest though.

You should know that the States don't like to promote anything than American music.. to be honest I have no idea who Hocico, for most of my music I rely on my friend back in Europe to tell me what's new.

thats largely false....Canadian and European bands play the states constantly: MT-TV, Lacuna Coil, Within Temptation, Kamelot, hell...we have a large, multi-week festival dedicated to one of the greatest Brit performers: Ozzy Osbourne.

As crazy as it's gonna sound....they'll make more money doing a world tour then a US tour....World tours pay more, and have MUCH better contract perks...so they reach a much broader audience them playing the states....they probably will play a US tour...but your looking mid fall before they start, or think, about that.

...& I was gonna' suggest putting a link in a thread like this...& HunHee already here...HOOKIN' IT UP!

..& EnviousPoppet, has quite the point there...

BUT THAT IS WHY WE HAVE THE UNDERGROUND!..& YOU ARE A PART OF IT NOW!!!

*points at you in a fashion mocking uncle sam*

I like the beats...but it is a bit "screamy".....I would not ask for it to be played...but would not count it against the D.J. for playing it.....& a couple of tracks would get me to the danse floor...

..I would have to say I would likewise not be DRIVIN from the danse floor by this album....

I bet they'd be wild in concert. :)

I really like it, I've been playing them since I read the post/looked them up. Thanks for sharing. I appreciate it. :)

HEY...I was just wondering...How would you say "Hocico"?

Ho-si-ko

Hoc-i-ko

Ho-si-so

You saw it live...how were they introduced?

Ho-chi-ko. All given about the same stress (course that was in Japan so it's possible, but quite unlikely, that the intonation is a little different. Nonetheless I'm sure the sounds are the same.). It means something like 'shitface' in Spanish apparently? Not entirely sure on that though.

About the 'screamy' - I agree. That's why I liked them better in concert. I don't particularly go in for the raspy-voice bands (I don't know how to describe that but you know, like everyone they play on the radio?) usually, so I was a bit disappointed hearing the CD after hearing them live, where they sounded less over-produced and more ...well, natural? But I wouldn't hold my tastes to hold true for everyone - I'm not a very big metal / super hardcore fan.

It's not largely false... do you hear it being played on the radio???? I don't.. like Rev Said unless you are into the underground scene or know people in the music industry it is very hard to come across decent music..They don't have to tour per-say, I can't enjoy their music on the radio. When I 1st came to the States I loved Prodigy.. when I asked my classmates if they liked their music, they looked at me like I was from Mars. They had no idea who that was. I mean I am pretty new at the Gothic Scene myself, however I listen to everything even tough I can't understand what they are saying lol.

Now about this band Osaka did you try maybe looking on ebay for their album?

Tours and Radio play have little to do with one another...there are TONS and TONS of great bands that tour...and you don't hear jack from them on the radio....but I won't argue with you on it...here...

There's a ton of stuff you don't hear on the radio.... because radio is mostly set up for corporate crap music and top 40. I gave up on radio long ago. I don't ever expect to hear what I want there... but it's not because of any bias against Europe. It's a bias against anything that won't make them money. If they thought it would be popular... they'd play it into the ground.

And Hocico's web site.. OK cool looking, but an interface/usability disaster.

I'll arm wrestle you for it  .. the argument that is lol.

Yes you are right .. I LOVE MUSIC, and it's a shame that money makes the world go around. If I can pick something to do in my spare time I'd deff. look into the music field (not compose or write, but maybe promote, I'm good at that ^_^).

Ah...I thought I heard some Spanish...but could not tell through the copious vocal effects...

& ya...MSTERBEAU...Interface disaster...I'm lucky the musics just start on their own...

Agreed. I did manage to fight my way thru it and find their myspace page. It was definitely worth it. I dig them.

They remind me a little of Snog from the early ninties.

Been a fan of Hocico since they were on a tiny label called Opcion Sonica out of Mexico. Odio Bajo El Alma is an early CD that still gets frequent listens. They are absolutely fierce live and Darque Productions have hosted them once in Detroit (at Alvins).

Check out Erk Aicrag’s solo project Rabia Sorda. Excellent stuff as well.

Last I heard Hocico was living/working in Germany now as they are much more successful in EUR and it's easier to do the numerous festivals/tours over there.
