How would the FCC shut down a band? Do they only play on the radio or television? Dont they put out CDs or play concerts? I'm just confused how a regulatory body that has jurisdiction over radio and television broadcasts could shut down a band. Wouldn't the band have to first be breaking the law in some way? Which begs the question... why do you have a job theat requires you to break the law?

I'm strongly pro-military. All my male relatives old enough to have done so were in either Vietnam, Korea or WWII. Its a nice sentiment, but often people have widely varying skill sets. I'd want the most qualified person. Not the person most likely to advance my military bias or create some arbitrary requirement that doesn't relate all that much to the job of a politician.

The skill sets for just "having been in the military" doesn't mean much in terms of the job of the president. Hopefully the president, even if he had or hasn't served, would be smart enough to let the military do the military work and he'd focus on his job of leading the country overall.

Having said all that I'd probably vote for McCain over Obama (and Hillary over Obama) if he wasn't a republican and was pro-choice (McCain would overturn R v Wade tomorrow if he could). Obama is a card-carrying socialist which i don't like all that much and i think is bad for the economy, Hillary was almost as on the socialist front but not as much. McCain i think would do a better job on the economy. But long term is more important to me than short term. I don't want to help out a party that wants unification of church and state nor do i want to live in a world were religious motives tell science what is good science, regardless of the data, and has many members that still don't get the fact that we live in a global society and preach some sort of neo-isolationism (although the democrats are almost as bad on that score as well). All are for the economy long term. Kinda leaves me preferring the "none of the above" idea.

I'd vote Libertarian if i thought it wouldn't be a waste of a vote.

Guess I'm stuck voting for Obama at this point. Although since its quite awhile away, thats open to change fairly easily as i research it more. Really dislike the two-party system. GRR.

As for Roe vs wade.. He most likely could/would try but I highly doubt that it ever will be over turned.. The senate and blah blah blah blah.... Also the FCC, umm yeah how dear wold you lose your job! He may be talking smack about cracking down but there is really only so much the FCC can do with out crossing the whole freedom of speech blah blah blah stuff... So while he may crack down, I'm banking the only difference we'd most likely see is more albums being marked with the whole "Parental advisory".. LOL and I really don't find it to be all that tragic that a 12 year old can't buy a cd, that sings about ass raping a grandmother or something..

The FCC already governs what can and cannot be said in the media, or they try....if that gets amped up, to the degree McCain is talking about, my job is out the window because tons of rock and metals bands will be dead in the water, because while they can say what they can now....you will be limited to what you can do even in a LIVE event.....and if I remember right....that would be going against the "free speech" right we supposedly have.

thats the problem though...."Screamin" isn't anywhere NEAR a shock jock....but we're talking about what gets PLAYED...Drowning Pool, Metallica, even some of Aerosmith's stuff....gone....what would the world be like if you can't even request "love in an elevator" because the FCC, under McCain is telling you it's "unappropriate for you"....

Its true McCain is very "centrist" compared to the party base. We have to also look at the whole institution that gets a boost when their guy gets into office, its not just the figurehead, its a whole series of related issues and power that gets shifted (or stays in the same place) when a president is chosen. Makes it more complicated than just focusing on the particular person that happens to hold the title. Its important, don't get me wrong, but theres a huge amount of baggage that comes along with the party a president is attached to.

In terms of Roe Vs. Wade. There is already a slight conservative bias to the court on this subject, most people I've read, say they need 1 more conservative on the subject and R vs Wade is likely gone the next time a relevant court case comes along. This argument was further advanced when O'Connor resigned and they replaced her with another conservative-leaning judge, the Chief judge now.

I have a personally odd opinion on that subject that I'm not totally comfortable with. I feel its ethically probably the best choice to be against abortion (long winded story there) but I don't want there to be a law against it and its far to opinion-based for the government to be in the business of saying who should or shouldn't have one. (Even though they already are.)

But the most important issue, is always, the economy regardless if we are in a recession or not. The economy being strong is what allows us the time/enegery/freedom to even have discussions about the other issues with a degree of calm. The less hand-to-mouth people are living, the more time they can devote to thinking about longer-term issues.

It's unfortunate that we have become so very bi-partisan in this country, although I know in many cases having only 2 parties works just fine. The bad thing is that having only Republicans & Democrats has bled over into ambiguity......both parties trying not to let their true feelings known in case they would "alienate" a certain group of voters....it has all gotten too politically correct & very sanitary. It makes it very difficult for voters to know exactly WHO they should vote for because you don't know what is what.

ITA. What we need in this country is to repeal stupid laws that no longer apply....that's an example of the kind of "changes" I would like to see. I hate when they just keep passing more & more laws every day. That doesn't solve anything. Enforce the laws we have & stop trying to "appeal" to the public by making it "look" like you did something by passing a law! "Well, we passed a law about that so the problem is fixed." It's NOT fixed if they refuse to enforce it in the first place!!!

I have so many examples of this it isn't even funny but I won't bore y'all.
