if i had ultimate control of when it would end, i'd like to live for millenia. (assuming i could lock my age where it currently is) there are so many things to do in this world, and nowhere near enough time to do them! i'd also love to see what happens to the human race over tens of thousands of years - where we would go, what kind of technology we develop, how our political/international relationships develop/grow, etc...

so yeah, millenia, as long as i could be in control of when i was done...

I think my intital reaction to this one, a billion years ago when i first started pondering it was "no", mostly based on reaction and emotion that hit me imediately , rather than any point by point discussion... and maybe a little bit of just wanting to agree with the hot chick in my highschool that asked me this question, or rather, just told me her opinion and i agreed with it without really thinking about it, hah.

But when i start breaking down the details, i slowly converted to "yes". I forget how different my opinions are now than how they were back in the day sometimes. Strange how totally opposite some of my ideas/ideals are from what they once were. *ponders*

the only thing that never changes in life, is the fact that everything changes! :wink

Wow, I'm actually surprised that the voting is almost even. Very interesting.

Question to those who want to live forever....

1. Is life really truly that great?

2. Are you really doing exactly what it was you imagined you would be doing?

3. If you had more time, would you seriously do what you keep putting off?

I personally think we age because life/living is really hard on the body. Look at all things living, they age, they die, they turn into a different form and in essence we (our parts/chemical make-up) are regenerated... sucked up into some other type of matter (other form).

It's like I keep reading, energy is neither created or destroyed, it just takes on another form.

what about the reputed ancients in buddhist/hindu/etc. lore? the wise-men/buddhas who according to legend lived hundreds of years? i believe that we age because we have bought into the belief that we just do.

is it possible that if you truly believe you don't have to get old, that just maybe you won't? is the mind more powerful than "accepted biological fact"? i don't know, but i'd like to find out! :wink

1. Yup, it's really truly that great.

2. Nope. I am doing nothing close to what I'd imagined I'd be doing. I love it anyway and as it turns out the life I thought I didn't want is WAY better than the life I was planning. Who knew, eh?

3. Nope. I don't want to live forever to do the things I haven't done. I want to live forever so I can keep doing the things I'm currently doing.

1. Yeah it is. There bad patches, but what else is there to compare it to? Its "great" in that its the best we are aware of or know about.

2. Hell no. Who is?

3. Eventually yeah. Its is true that procrastination is widespread, but just because something is difficult or hard to overcome doesn't mean it wont be. If your dead you have no chance at all. There is plenty of stuff , even if you woke up and busted your ass 16 hours a day for 80 years, you'd never have time to get to.

I'm skeptical that the reported ages of the ancient people that lived for upwards of 200 years are accurate. I think its just bad reporting and/or mixing of legend with historical truth, after awhile it takes on an aura of misplaced accuracy. Positive thinking is useful and can have some physiological effects, but I'm skeptical of any claim that "wishing" for something (physical) makes it pop into existence.

A peach tree no matter how much you would hope that it would produce an orange, will always produce peaches. (inspired by Kung Fu Panda)

Good for you, I wish I could live like that. I want more.. (inspired by Little Mermaid)

Heh.. I gotta stop watching Disney movies.. *giggles*

1. Yes...the Universe divided itself because of "lonely"

2. Yes...I do stuff and things....& I am in a constant state of learning...

3. I think once a person decides to do a thing they should do it...NOT put it off...you may have to wait to paint a fence until tomorrow due to rain or you may have to wait until pay day...but to PUT it off for no REASON...that's lazy...lazy creates a stagnation (a rut)..this shows a lack of self discipline...a lack of self discipline leads to weakness, of heart and mind and soul...

13 lunar cycles in a modern year

60 an exceedingly old age for an ancient human

or they could have meant seasons

I exercise my right to disagree with immortality. I don't think it would be much of a turn on to know that you are still here when everyone else is long gone. When your number is up, thats it, you should die. Imagine how difficult it would be as you would have to learn new ideas and concepts and keep reinventing yourself each and every time. No thanks.
