Bernadette
Royal Oak just had a new bar/restaurant open -- the Black Finn. BlackFinn I have not. And am trying to figure out what type of place it is. By the name, I would guess Irish pub, but ... ?? Just curious if anyone had checked it out, and their thoughts. I'm sure I'll wander in there at some point fairly soon.

Bernadette
South on Main Street, almost by the tracks -- other end of the same strip as Barnes and Noble.
perception7
What's this doing here? I was completely surprised to read this thread. Can anyone say YUPPIES? I went there last week on my way to Luna. It was busy. I can't imagine anyone on this board liking the place. I mean, most people on this board bash Luna for having SOME yuppies there. The blackfin was ALL yuppies. I went to Luna afterwards and was refreshed by the large DIVERSE crowd. Yuppies and All. Trust me, just because "black" is in the name of this bar(blackfin) does not mean it's "goth." percy

hunhee
Everyone was there.I am hoping it puts Bastone across the street out of business. Which, in turn, will force my ex-girlfriend who works there to resort to prostitution. Bastones used to be a decent place to eat, I went to the Wine Bar recently (which is part of Bastone's) and the service there sucked ass. I was very disappointed. Bernadette
I did finally try it the other day. Crazy busy with a line forming shortly after I got there, probably because it's still novel, and they are running specials. The beers and food were decent. I was with friends, so I enjoyed myself. There were a mix of all sorts of people there, all ages. Maybe cuz it's still new.

industrial_girl_2000
Blackfinn is not a goth club.....it's one of those typical RO preppie/yuppie type places which is fine if that is what you are into.
SuZQZ
I am confused... Why all the hate for a restaurant? No one suggested it was a "goth" restaurant or club. It's a restaurant. If it's a really good restaurant, and especially if they have a nice wine selection, then I will certainly add it to the list of places to check out. I don't care if some of the patrons are yuppie, preppie, old, young, ugly or beautiful, goth, etc. I only care about whether the food is good and the prices are decent.... because it's a restaurant. Ya'know? Thanks Bernadette, for letting us know how your evening was there. I am hoping to check it out sometime in the next couple of months. Which, in turn, will force my ex-girlfriend who works there to resort to prostitution. It won't happen. Blackfinn is there to take advantage of the downtown trend of yuppie dinks (dual income no kids) that live there. whereas Bastone is an established place which appeals to the older suburbanites, who settled down, and want a nice, if a bit pricy, place to eat and have a good drink with their kids I am confused... We can't be black capes and coffins ALL the time. (If we did, how could we afford to live around RO in the first place?) In fact I don't know many who do it ANY of the time, and, if I did , they'd be too cool for me anyway. I probably won't go unless it's "off peak" like they say for cell phones, because I've never been a big fan of louder bar and grill types, when I'm eating. I get too distracted by the din of all the loud voices swirling around. If I want to spend extra money and splurge, I need some quiet. Bean and I went to Beirut Palace 30 mins before they closed and it was heavenly. I love mes a good food place with maybe two or three other people there. ---------------------------------------------------------- That, or just say fuck it, and buy tons of bakery goodness down the street at Julian Brothers, and go home and watch Control again. Their bubble cake is to die for. And their spinach dip, mmmmm Oh, and they're freindly there, too. That's one of the problems I have with some of these yuppie places, is the attitude of the wait staff. Sometimes places that attract snotty clientele, also attract snotty waitstaff too. I don't know about this place though. It may be nice. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So, Suzqz, grab Mstrbeau, give Bean and I a call and we'll head there on a Tues maybe around 10:45P, k? ------------- Let me just check our account first. I took Bean to Andiamo's once. Now there's a place where you may need to put a few more hours working the corner before paying the bill

No hate here.....just letting people know what kind of place it is & had to call it something! If we didn't use the terms preppie or yuppie, then what else would you call it? Maybe "mainstream"? Since DGN is a goth/industrial forum, I figured people are looking for those kinds of venues here rather than the more mainstream stuff which is why I posted what I did. Bernadette
Wow TOUGH crowd. For those open-minded and wanting to check it out, PM me -- one of my buddies won a party there this Thursday.
hunhee
I found out the reason that the place was so busy in the beginning was because they were giving away free food and drinks for the first few weeks. As a result, lines were out the door. Now, the food is charged its normal price, but the place is still known as "that restaurant that everybody goes to". Now THAT's smart advertising
