I've been in a car when JUST the tie rod broke ... you have no hope of controlling the car. I was on the freeway ... not fun, *shudders at the memory*. All you can do is slow down and hope you don't hit anything in the process. Yikes, I imagine that would be worse.

Glad no one was hurt.

She hit three cars cuz there was NO steering and it was a narrow street with cars on both sides. The whole thing turned sideways and she hit two cars on the passenger side and 1 on the drivers side...it sux but we have the parts to fix it it is being worked on as we speak.

Yikes - no steering is about the scariest thing that could happen to a driver. What makes that happen, some kind of defective parts or something? - the car looks fairly new from what the photos show.

I'm curious - if it was a mechanical failure why is anyone blaming the driver?

It just happens over time. It happens more often and sooner than others with constant stress to the suspension (like dirt roads, big potholes and railroad tracks opposed to smooth pavement).

I get mine checked every year (sometimes the wear can't be caught, but sometimes it can) because I put LOTS of miles on my car in so little time, my parents live on a nasty dirt road, I live in Michigan ... home of nasty potholes ... and I live by railroad tracks. I've also had to get a four wheel alignment and new tires every year for the past few.

I wouldn't blame the driver at all. In fact, it probably could have been a lot worse under different circumstances.
