SCA...Ever heard of it? Want to know what it is?

The SCA is an international organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts and skills of pre-17th-century Europe. Our "Known World" consists of 19 kingdoms, with over 30,000 members residing in countries around the world. Members, dressed in clothing of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, attend events which may feature tournaments, arts exhibits, classes, workshops, dancing, feasts, and more. Our "royalty" hold courts at which they recognize and honor members for their contributions to the group.

That is the official websites description of a club I have recently joined, (or are in the process of joining.) And yes it is sort of a huge D&D game lol. You can choose a name, origin, family history, region, and from a large array of variouse activities. Period sword fighting (fencing and heavy weaponry), armour making, making clothes, cooking, archery, throwing weaponry, writing, reading, music, singing, poetry, dance, ect. There is almost anything for anyone.

A very common missconception is the SCA is like a renfest...not true...well not entirely. It has the same basic components, but the SCA actually barters for items so everything is cheaper since the merchants know it will actually be used. The SCA focuses on any time before the 17the century and an event for the SCA is small when 500 people show up.

Every event at most would be $20. This would consist of a $10 entry fee to the event pluse a $10 feast fee. For an event to run the full $20 is very unlikely however. It's usually much cheaper and if your a member of the SCA then it's $3 off all events for you and your guests.

You can be any age...any whatever and you'll find at least one thing interesting.

I am trying to promote the SCA because i think overall they are a very kind, family based, fun, caring group that are still strange as hell lol. Until recently i didn't even know the SCA exsisted and now am looking for people to come hang out and have fun. :D

Meetings for Talonvale are every Tues. @ 7pm until dark at Ella Sharp Park in Jackson.

Heh.. wellll... I'm camping with Brotherhood of the Mace. We're located in the large picnic site that is entered by going under the bridge that you would cross to go from the Palmer Lodge / merchants area to the large Lodge / fighting area. Our shield is black and white, with a fleur de lys reminiscent cross. Ask for Amalthea. LOL
