jynxxxedangel
Check out my washing machine. It's a 1954 Maytag model # E2LP wringer washer. I have to roll it up to the sink (it's on casters) and fill it manually with a big cooking pot, then wring the clothes manually. It does have a small sump pump built in to pump the dirty water out, at least. When it's plugged in, the agitator motor is ON. There is no off switch, only a damper knob on the front with which to stop it while loading the clothes in and out. When wringing the clothes, one must watch out for Mr. Thumbkin and Mr. Pointer, those rollers are no joke! Ahhh, the joys and hazards of using 50 year old appliances.. Wringer washers are a little bit of work to use, but I am a hands-on sort of person, and I appreciate quaint vintage things. Besides, this thing is built like a fucking TANK, and it will be around LONGGG after I'm gone.. Come on, kiddies! Don't be shy! Show off all the stuff you have that is outdated, and in some folks' opinions, OBSOLETE! Those things which you defend valiantly against well-meaning spouses and skeptical friends; those dubious household and wardrobe items that are still "too good" to toss in the rubbish! This should be a FUN thread! I can hardly wait to see your old warhorse vacuums, those shoes the soles have worn through (but they're comfy!), ratty beater cars, curling irons from the 80's that arc a spark each time you plug them in, the 15 year old blue jeans that wouldn't die, and other old stuff still in use! jynxxxedangel
Hahahahaha, and you still play them??? I have an old Coleco-Vision set around here, someplace..haven't broken it out in aeons!
tanuki1985
I do still play them. I strongly prefer classic video games over the new bullshit that's being released. Back then, story and gameplay was more important than graphics. Thee days, graphics and huge tits are more important. I feel like I'm watching a movie about blood and boobs rather than playing a video game. EDIT: That washer is really interesting. I bet a lot of people just come over to see it, huh? jynxxxedangel
It seems the new video games are more geared towards adolescent males. The cheezy boob factor turns me off as well. Why doll up a perfectly good game with unnecessary graphics, indecipherable special moves, and gratuitous cheesecake?? On the other hand, I REALLY want one of those Wii things. They have finally created a game system that is family and old-person friendly again!
jynxxxedangel
OH! I almost forgot one of the BEST functions of my washing machine.. She makes a HELLUVA party cooler for beer! This bad girl holds about three bags of ice, and almost two cases of beer! She insulates like a charm, and when the ice melts down, I simply wheel her to the sink, pull out the gooseneck hose, aim it down the drain,, and pump the melt-water out! I'm SURE I'm not the only old hillbilly genius who's thought of this dual purpose..
pomba gira
Hell, if it works, why get rid of it? Back in the day they made stuff to LAST- not fall apart in a couple years so you'll buy a new one. Don't have it anymore, but I had a 1920s vintage fan... the old finger-chopper kind with the, um, minimalist "protection" from the blades. Kind'a like this. It worked wonderfully and I wish I still had it... don't recall what became of it but prolly fell by the wayside during one of my then-frequent moves. Head Wreck
janome overlocker. cant get blades any more so local store doctored some for me (a mix of new home and singer). the shop assistant who fitted it was amazed how smooth it was. "they built em to last" was the store owners retort
jynxxxedangel
Hehehehe..You're lucky to know how to sew with a machine. I can only handstitch, but perfectly, mind you! Every time I get near something with bobbins, it's like Charlie Brown with kite string.. :D
wingdazrael
I love that washer, Jynxxedangel, my grandparents have one similiar in thier basement (they're pack rats). I have my grandparent's toaster from when they got married, it's almost 50 years old. It's pretty cool, silver and aerodynamic. I have my grandma's old iron, too (it's great real heavy, no steam), I have to fix the plug though, bought the stuff to do it, I just haven't. The apartment building I live in was built around the turn of the century, lots of cool quirky things around the building, like a dumbwaiter in the kitchen of the larger apts, and strange little doors all over the place. jynxxxedangel
Ooooooh! You MUST post some PICS of your cool toaster and iron!! I had an old Toast-A-Lator up until a couple years ago, when I had to leave someplace in a hurry and cut my losses! It was one of the toasters where you put the toast in one end, and it moved on rollers through the elements to the other end. I LOVED that old thing! Pics, PICS, everyone!! I have a few old other dinosaurs I will be posting soon..don't let me hog this thread! :D
pheramoans
The only thing I can think of would be my Sega Genesis, not that old but still 'obsolete' according to most people
Nightgaunt
I used to be an avid collector of vintage scientific equipment, but had to leave most of it behind when we moved. I had a small army of gigantic old oscilloscopes, a c.1960s Geiger counter, and various odds and ends. I once saw a very old cyclotron at the MSU salvage yard, but had no way of getting it home. Head Wreck
ican handstitch too. the patches on my uniform are handstitched so finely you cannot see the cotton i used to do the job, i've often been pulled up for "gluing them on" untill i reveal the reverse side. oh, my original airsoft gun, an MMC L85A1 IW with its external gas rig. older than most airsoft players i'm seeing at sites now

Fin
I suppose it's not an antique, but I'm still banging away to you all on the keyboard of a 1998 Toshiba "Satellite" laptop. Whenever I try to open a page with intense graphics or moving pictures, KABOOM it pretty much starts smoking & then shuts itself down.

I have an old Pentium Pro that STILL WORKS! I use it to store my music and media on. It was my main computer up until last year. Draco1958
My family used to have an old wringer washer. It was barrel shaped and the lid came off like a cooking pot lid. I have a great aunt's sewing maching. It's electric and a tabletop model that is designed to be dropped into a sewing machine table. I have an old nintendo, sega genesis with a 32x add on piece, an old 110 Kodak camera and an old 126 Kodak camera. These cameras used a drop in film cartridge. Destroit
I still have a Brother Word Processor, which was rendered obsolete with Microsoft Word a LOOOONG time ago. Thing still works! I type so fast though that it literally CAN'T handle the speed. It will start to display the word I typed like...a sentence ago when I'm already quite a few words ahead. I have TONS of old shit. I'm like...old shit central, I need to start an antique store and name it, obviously, "Old Shit Central". I'd beat out a lot of your grandparents. I'll go through and figure out all the old shit I have and get back to you guys.
