Battlestar Galatica (The New Series)

Recommended Posts

I rally need to find a place to download all of them... I mised most of the first two seasons.

google "torrent battlestar Galactica season X"

I suggest Utorrent. Watching them over the net when you can find them generally sucks and doesn't to justice to the movie quality visuals and sound.

I know how to download them... it's finding a decent tracker that I am having a hard time with.

Well even the well know slowish (mininova, isohunt, piratebay, whatever ones , after leaving your comp running for 24-36 hours or so your done. I downloaded everything except season 1 that way (got that from netflix) Its slowish but it gets the job done. Most of the good trackers that I'm aware of only have the newer episodes. The private trackers that have fast download speeds tend to not have much in the way of "catalogue". If you find one sign me up. heh.

I usually download the .avi versions and convert them to DVD format with ConvertX. Rather than trying to download the monster-sized dual layer disk rips.

I also have a tendency to make "open letter" type posts that might benefit anyone reading them, not always necessarily meaning them just to be read by 1 poster, I didn't mean to imply you weren't computer-savvy.

I prefer the term "toasters" its more respecful. LOL

Random thought... In one episode (The Eye Of Jupiter I think) Starbuck says something like "One turkey, no sparrows." when shes out flying and sees a cylon raider. Which I assume means Turkey = bigger "transport" type Heavy Raiders, and "Sparrows" the traditional half-moon type raiders. Thought it was funny.

I like it.

Just finished Episode 7. I didn't miss as much of season 1 as I thought.

Well until you get up to like 4-5 viewings of every episode they haven't been offically "watched" haha. (I'm actually not up that high on anything except I think season 3 and only on a few eps.

10 episodes in one day. I think I need a break.

I think thats about my max. I know i blew through like half of season 3 in one day, which had to be like 9-11 episodes. After awhile the brain gets filled up and you have to empty it out to make room for more. :p

Ever play an Areal-combat game? Or watch many movies about WWII areal-combat?

Sparrows are "flak" that is dropped by Turkeys, which are your Targets.

Also, rewatch the Mini-series. In the first battles... when Boomer and Helo are in thier Raptor and the Viper Mark 7s have gone dead and destroyed. The Cylons fire missles. Helo yells for Boomer to drop a "Sparrow"... which draws the missle away.

Yeah I've spent a lot of time playing Sims (not so much the WWII sims though) , and I'm a WWII buff (although not specifically aerial combat). Never heard that term used that way before (not saying it isn't used, just haven't heard it) Usually a sparrow in that context is a guided missile A2A missile which i used to hear all the time in the various incarnations of the different combat sims back in the day. Not saying your wrong or anything, I just personally never heard it used that way.

In that particular episode though, the way she describes it and what just happened... that is a heavy raider just flew by and shes following it... I'm thinking it makes more sense that shes talking about the type of ship because shes relaying back to glactica, any flak or other such stuff probably wouldn't be all that relevant from a "sitrep" standpoint to galactica. Although I didn't remember the "sparrow" comment from the miniseries.

These terms could be used as euphemism , for instance the raiders (traditional cylon types) could be used as these "sparrows" to draw attention away from the heavy raiders which are transports mainly. So radiers in this context could be a sort of the cylon version of the colonies sparrow flak. The more I think about the specific context I'm pretty convinced she meant it to mean the ship types. *ponders*

Ah here we go BSG military jargon:

http://en.battlestarwiki.org/wiki/List_of_terms_(RDM)

turkey: slang for a Cylon Heavy Raider

sparrow:slang for a Cylon Raider

Interesting website.
