Can Crocs Be Dangeorus To Your Child?

Recommended Posts

I don't think anyone around here would put these on their children but just in case. Many times a child wants something and the parent will buy it not realizing they could be hazardous.

Can Crocs Be Dangerous To Your Child?

They're some of the world's most popular footwear, but your kid's Crocs could be almost literally a walking injury waiting to happen.

Just take the story of four-year-old Toronto boy Duncan, who loved his purple pair more than any other shoes he had, that is, until they almost cost him a toe.

"They got stuck into the escalator," Duncan recalls of the fateful day his favourite footwear failed him.

Duncan was at Sherway Gardens with his family, coming up an escalator when suddenly one of his Crocs got stuck between the moving stairs and the stationary wall. His mother quickly figured out what was happening, but not before his shoes were forever ruined.

"I dropped my shopping bag and ripped his foot out," recalls Duncan's mother, Karen Goodfellow.

"There's no question in my mind that his big toe or the next toe would have been caught or ripped right off."

Duncan's mother says the Crocs' soft, thick foam led to the slip-on getting caught in the escalator, and says she was told by shoe store staff that the colourful Crocs commonly get caught in just such a manner.

When Crocs executives were contacted about Duncan's situation they wouldn't address the issue directly, but issued the following statement:

"Crocs shoes are completely safe. The popularity of our shoes has helped draw attention to a long-existing issue that we think is very important - escalator safety."

Meanwhile, young Duncan won't be getting a new pair of Crocs, and his mother has him back on closed-toed sneakers.

"As a schoolteacher and as a mom if we can tell other parents to keep their kids safe then it's worth the effort," Goodfellow said.

She added that effort may include trying to get escalators signed with a notification regarding the allegedly dangerous connection between moving stairways and the popular footwear.

Hehe, my mom actually bought me a pair of these about 4 years ago. She said: "Well, they are all black!". I said: "Are these Jason shoes? Friday the 13th styled? You know the mask!!" :) I never even thought of wearing those things.

I think Crocs are ugly, and I don't own any, but for the record sneakers can get caught in an escalator, too, especially if the laces are too long or untied. When I was a kid I remember getting the rubber on the front of my sneaker caught.

So will all this said, Crocs are the number one threat to America and we need to have them pulled of the shelves.

Please...think of the children...and my poor eyeballs. I'm easily offended by wardrobe.

Well, see, one day, someone who works in a hospital, or someone who knows someone who works in a hospital said, " Gosh these shoes are sooo comfortable, I'm gonna start wearing them all the time" Then some other airhead got the idea: "hmmn maybe people would by them" And now, fifty bajillion pairs sold later, we have what we have here. I agree they are totally not safe.

I also say that they are one the UGLIEST kinds of shoes EVER created, and if I had kids, I wouldn't let them wear them. Hell, I wouldn't even make them wear them as punishment!

Like Ive said before, those STUPID shoes should have stayed in the hospital!

Croc also make your feet sweat a lot. Sure, they have holes, but the material is not very "breathable."

Crocs might be comfy, but they'd actually be bad for nurses to wear since they have holes. What if a nurse accidentally dropped a needle and it just so happened to go through one of those holes?

I really hate Crocs. They're a downright assault on the eyes.

Ironically, I have heard that because of the holes on the top of them, and that they can be fairly easily punctured, medical establishments are beginning to ban them. A dropped syringe can puncture your foot making you susceptible to all sorts of blood born illnesses.

I totally just had a flashback to when I was a kid and my laces got caught in the escalator. I seriously though I was gonna get sucked into oblivion. Terrifying.

Give sandals a chance. They were good enough for Jesus.... :)

Okay, that made me laugh out loud.

Wow, yet another factor, I hadn't thoughta that. Then again, I don't work in that industry, so why would I have?

Flip flops have to go too.
