A pregnant woman has been fatally stabbed in the chest and had her nearly full-term baby cut from her womb.

Police in Washington state have arrested a 23-year-old woman over the gruesome crime.

The baby boy survived his mother's death and is being treated at the Deaconess Medical Centre, in Spokane, where his condition was described as critical.

Court documents said 27-year-old Araceli Camacho Gomez had her hands and feet bound with yarn and suffered "massive trauma to her stomach area" during the attack, which occurred late Friday night

An autopsy showed she died of the chest wounds, but had other wounds "consistent with the cutting of the body to remove an unborn child".

Her body was found early on Saturday in a park in the city of Kennewick.

Phiengchai Sisouvanh Synhavong was arrested and is being investigated on suspicion of first-degree murder.

She is accused of trying to pass the infant boy off as her own during calls she made to emergency telephone operators late on Friday night.

She was being held without bail Monday and is expected to appear in court on Wednesday.

Court documents said gloves soaked in blood, a box-cutter, bloody paper towels, yarn, baby bottle and baby socks were among some of the items found in the accused woman's purse.

Not the first case of someone after someone's unborn baby

I still don't get cases like this...really.

But then again I still don't get why people have babies period...so it looks like I'm totally out in left field on my own in this one.

What I REALLY don't get...is how stupid these assailant women MUST be to think they'd get away with it.

A person who does something like that is obviously deeply disturbed, and they think they can "get away with it" because in their delusional system, it's a perfectly reasonable thing to do. Or something that's so necessary that the consequences pale in comparison. If you talk to a schizophrenic person who has experienced auditory hallucinations, they'll tell you that when "the voices" start telling you to do something, you'll eventually do it because you're so desperately hoping they'll stop & leave you alone.

Like the similar case last year (I think) where the woman killed her pregnant best friend, cut out her fetus, then killed her other three children. I believe they just recently found her fit to stand trial but that means very little... our laws as they're written don't take the realities of mental illness into account. They even said that this lady "obviously had some serious mental health issues", but still decided to try her. I mean, there was NO reason for her to do this- no "logical" reason, anyway... just some fucked brain chemistry and miswired neural pathways, and boom, four people die horribly and this woman's life is pretty much over.

BTW anyone know what nationality the assailant's name is? Sounds Thai or maybe Laotian... just curious.

I get it, people that do this kind of shit are completly out of touch with reality. They think and believe what ever they want to justify their NEEDS, and I guess they feel they NEED and deserve a child.

Don't get me wrong, I am in no way defending them, and I believe in cases like this (also of killing and raping of young children) deserve a harsher death penalty (but we all know what happen lately with that ::sigh::)

Poor woman. I am in tears just thinking about it.
