p2p sharing isn't only dead but it's highly illegal and highly traceable. Most of those copyright infringement lawsuits are from p2p sharing clients such as Morpheus, Limewire, Gnutella, etc. I would recommend NOT using them, especially due to the fact that they are so tracked most of the content you download on it ends up being either not what you downloaded, a virus/trojan/key-logger, or both.

I would go to g2p.org for your initial search. It's free, completely legal (it exploits Google's search engine through coding, it's a site that enters the code for you if you don't have it memorized or aren't good with coding), and many times you will be surprised at the good stuff you can find. However, it can be a hit or miss sometimes, but like I said since it's legal and you don't have to download/install anything it's always worth a shot.

Secondly, if that doesn't work, try torrents. They're moderatly risky, but not as risky as p2p clients like Ares. In torrent you're getting data both off of personal computers AND servers (which makes it not quite as p2p due to the fact that it's coming from a server and not a person). Usually with torrents you have to download a torrent client. Just look up "Bit Torrent" and then install it.

it is very risky, usually with torrents theres just one guy tracking the ips of the others, i iv gotten the warning from comcast that if im found guilty again they shut internet down, basicly do not download games, or stuff that has +100 seeds. honestly aside from the dc network and torrents, all other p2p software is fucking useless, and laced with viruses at every doorstep.

Yeah, like I said, not only with the viruses and trojans...but on p2p servers you can't even FIND anything you need! It's like the whole thing is just a huge virus library database for people who are either dumb/ignorant enough to use them.

Actually I download software more than I do music.

okay, I'll try looking up torrits. for the music I dont mind dowloading from a pay-for account like napster now is or the apple ipod thingie... but I cant afford a $150 piece of software that I lost on my old computer. I really need to use PUBLISHER for my fundraising fliers and made one this weekend on WORD and it was VERY comlicated because the pcitures wouldnt overlap, you couldnt seperate the fliers into 4-per-page, etc. and I like that I can take a publisher file to any copy dealer (today I used office max) and they can pull it up and print it easily. but thats what I wanted it for. I havent downloaded music in AGES. dont even have a burner right now lol and no sound lol. but occationally I need some important software.

Thanks for the advice guys! would anyone have a good address for a torrit???

You may also want to try http://www.thepiratebay.org/

They usually have TONS of software.

As Miranda said, make sure you have good virus protection whenever downloading ANYTHING.

most virus ware wont allow these sites to download anything. you need to allow everything to pass thru without being screened. thats how ares and limewire were.
