I am seeing gold finches...humming birds...dear...opposums...coons...coyotes...

Its important to leave a corner for the wildlife.

I also planted stuff for humming birds and honey bees everyone should...I will have milk weed soon so the monarchs have food on the way to mexico....

My moms place now we leave a whole half acre wild...its in back so no one complains as I think its illegal to NOT mow...?

Its made a huge difference....there are huge trees nearby as well....eagles and owls don't nest in trees that are not really tall.

Coyote?!??!

For real?

And the milkweed REALLY WILL help get monarchs. They love that stuff!

You can have a wonderful backyard that attracts wildlife, and it can still look nice. I've been trying to get our backyard a little more critter friendly but somehow all that stuff that grows like weeds just plain dies in my yard.

Sigh.

If you go on the national wildlife federation website they have tips for what to plant and have in your yard to attract butterflies and hummingbirds and you can even get your yard certified as an official backyard habitat!

Coyote?!??!

For real?

Take a drive on M-14 or Prospect Road, even some of US-23 at night.

They are all over, over here.

Cougars have been seen too. I've never seen one myself, but I have seen my fair share of Coyote since moving out here.

That's crazy!!

I don't think I've ever seen a coyote in the wild.

Guy is gonna be SO jealous that we don't have any over by us.

I have, however, seen a fox. Twice.

NO ONE believed me.

I saw one while I was riding my bike in Dearborn and one while I was driving in Plymouth.

Everyone said I was a liar UNTIL

there was this little tiny blurb in the local paper that there were, in fact, a few fox families living by the Rouge.

Ha!

Take THAT unbelievers!!

I have a pack of about 20 coyotes here in Wixom I've been tracking since last November.

Alpha Male comes to visit my yard sometimes-- he is the only one who will come close to me; the rest of the pack stays at the edge of the woods. I think the reason he has investigated me so thoroughly is because I let out a *YIFF* to them every once in awhile (I can do a perfect coyote call).

I can hear them each evening, as they spread out around the perimeter of the trailer court to hunt, and call to each other. Alpha Female always positions herself parallel to Alpha Male when they hunt. I know each individual by their voice. Coyote voices are just as varied as yours and mine.

I've tried on countless occasions to photograph them, but they hear the shutter of my camera, and they are GONE. I came SO close to snapping Alpha Male in my yard last winter, but the closest I got was his footprints as he went trucking past me!

I love coyotes, they are one of my spirit animals.

Here is a link to a video recording I made of a sunset with Alpha Male and Alpha Female calling in the background:

When I lived in Flint, off Torrey Rd and Hill, I used to see the same fox vixen every morning when I walked to the store for cigarettes and coffee. If I didn't see her, I at least saw her footprints where she had been walking on her usual rounds. Foxes are so pretty, one of the prettiest creatures I can think of. I feel very honored to have seen her so closely, as foxes tend to be very shy and skittish.

Haven't seen an eagle around here, yet, but I certainly don't doubt their existence! I'll be on the lookout, now!
