TygerLili
I'm not really a fan of this look unless the guy is wearing traditional Scottish dress with the kilt, but everyone has different tastes.

Rev.Reverence
The two on top=Kilts. The mini-skirt is just that. See the pleats...they are supposed to go across the ass, not the junk. It would be horrid if you had pleated wool rubbin' your junk..........for more than an hour.
Miranda
Rev, I think I know what a kilt is and what images I posted. But, thank you for "clarifying" the obvious. Edited July 19, 2008 by Miranda
Miranda
Main Entry: Skirt 1skirt Listen to the pronunciation of 1skirt Pronunciation: \ˈskərt\ Function: noun Etymology: Middle English, from Old Norse skyrta shirt, kirtle — more at shirt Date: 14th century 1 a (1): a free-hanging part of an outer garment or undergarment extending from the waist down (2): a separate free-hanging outer garment or undergarment usually worn by women and girls covering some or all of the body from the waist down b: either of two usually leather flaps on a saddle covering the bars on which the stirrups are hung c: a cloth facing that hangs from the bottom edge or across the front of a piece of furniture. A kilt, definitely is a type of "skirt'. Main Entry: Kilt 1kilt Listen to the pronunciation of 1kilt Pronunciation: \ˈkilt\ Function: verb Etymology: Middle English, of Scandinavian origin; akin to Old Norse kjalta lap, fold of a gathered skirt Date: 14th century Oh gee, even Webster thinks so. creatureofthenyte
Not for me, just not my thing, sorry. I was just thinkin, I mean ya know, first men started wearing ear rings. Then men started wearing make-up. Now some men wear skirts. How much more women's clothing are some men gonna start wearing?? Where does it stop ??? Now some men wear skirts. How much more women's clothing are some men gonna start wearing??Where does it stop ??? While I am by no means a history buff, I believe men have been doing those things for centuries. It seems only in more recent history it has become taboo, if you will. And on that note, not to be argumentative; but it makes me think, not that I initiated this thread for "thinking" purposes, about the "equality", or lack there of, of attire options for the different sexes. Women are wearing pants, power suits, boots, and fatigues, all of which, which were previously male only, are now perfectly sociably acceptable and not considered cross dressing. Men, on the other hand, are often labeled negatively if they choose to adorn themselves in any way that modern macho man mentality has labeled feminine. Especially, in the scene I have been into for the last 20 years, there have been instances I have seen a person, not sure whether they were male or female, and thought...what does it matter, I think they are beautiful and/or interesting. The specifics of their anatomy should have no bearing. Now, back to my original intent, objectfying men (it's all about equality )

Actually COTN, if you wanna go at it like this, men wore makeup and jewelry first... just later women did it better. Like Men wore corsets first (or waist cinchers.. women again took over and did it Better.. And I believe men wore skirts first.. again, women did it even BETTER.. I don't know why it's now labeled girlie, but before, it was the HEIGHT of fashion.. and men were more victims to it than women. A lot of our thinking has shifted to.. oh that's gay, well, it's not...it's completely HUMAN. I think now, men are gaining again, and I like it. Personally I wish we'd go back to more refined times where sweats never existed (I wear them, but think sometimes they should not be worn outside the house), and most people used to dress up to go out into the public. I feel we are 99% way too casual.
Bernadette
Here Here! Agreed... I do believe one has to have the attitude (confidence, self-esteem) to pull off a man-skirt (wearing it that is, not pulling it off!).

I feel we are 99% way too casual. Well its still not my thing. There seem to be alot of things in society, over the past 15-20 or so, that were once considered taboo or shocking, that now, alot of people wouldn't even flinch over. I ever tried wearing a skirt in public, something other then a kilt, it's quite possible that I could attract all sorts of non-flattering attention and or drama, both of which I don't want. I think it would be interesting to do a poll to see how many guys would or would not be comfortable wearing a skirt in public.

How much more women's clothing are some men gonna start wearing??Where does it stop ??? "I would just like to say, that it is my conviction/that longer hair and other flamboyant/affectations/of appearance are nothing more/than the male's emergence/from his drab camouflage/into the gaudy plumage/that is the birthright of his sex/There is a peculiar notion that fine feathers/and elegant plumage/are not proper for the male/when ac----tually/that is the way things are, in most species" -"My Conviction", Hair original Broadway soundtrack As others have noted, a look through history and across cultures will quickly show that flamboyant personal adornment is definitely not an exclusively feminine thing. True, in Western culture men have dressed fairly conservatively since the late 18th c. But in the grand scheme of things, 200 years is a pretty brief interval. Coolest ever makeup worn by men: the Wodaabe people of Niger, Nigeria & Cameroon. Sorry, I'm tryna finish my term projects so you gotta google 'em yourself if you want pics. But, they are absolutely gorgeous people and spend major time ornamenting themselves in a variety of ways.
n0Mad
Anybody want to split this topic into two? Keep the pictures here in "Pictures & Photography" and move the debate over to "Fashion". To add to the debate, I bought two new kilts today and wore one of them, in public, from 5:30pm 'til now and I'm still wearing it. I bought some nice ones, dress slack quality, so I can wear them in public. And, to second what everyone else has been saying, men did wear skirts, corsets, makeup, and jewelry first. Why most don't any more is beyond me and I'm doing my part to attempt and make skirts stylish again.
