Rev.Reverence
I THOUGHT I WOULD START A THREAD FOR TRIBAL BODY PAINT/TATTOOS! PLEASE TELL US OF THE TRIBE YOU ARE SHOWING... pompa gira gave me the ideal from the other thread over there (*points*) so I did hers...I sure hope she'll comment later as to why they are her fav... Coolest ever makeup worn by men: the Wodaabe people of Niger, Nigeria & Cameroon. Sorry, I'm tryna finish my term projects so you gotta google 'em yourself if you want pics. But, they are absolutely gorgeous people and spend major time ornamenting themselves in a variety of ways. _________________________________________________________________ I think my favorite are the diverse styling of the Polynesian body/face tattoos... Maori men...SO COOL! I realy like the concentric lines that 'maze about' following the facial lines... I WANT IT!!! Hawaiian HOTTIE! There are more.... pomba gira
Wow! Thanks, Rev.! There are a couple other African tribes who do interesting face paint, I'll track some down as soon as I finish these term projects (4 of them, due tomorrow). The Wodaabe men in the pix are all dolled up for the Gerewol festival, where several clans come together for a big yearly bash. The young men do a courtship dance and the young women choose the hottest to sport with... not quite what you'd expect from Muslim people, hm? See, there's always more to learn! Anyway, the exaggerated facial expressions are meant to show off the whiteness of the teeth and eyes, considered essential for male beauty. The face paint is ochre and other mineral pigments. The women don't do face paint, but they do have facial tattoos and their own very elaborate headdresses.
