Going to be new to Detroit and Good Music!

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone! My names Nick and I'll be moving near Detroit for a good 3 or 4 months. I'm really big into industrial/techno music and it has always been one of my dreams to go to a goth rave since I was around 15. I am 21 now and finally my chance is coming! I'm from the Outer Banks North Carolina and really never have been thoroughly introduced into the city life :(

I was wondering when I move up there in the next couple of weeks if someone can attune me to all the fun things to do in detroit. I don't even have a goth suit (total newbie here)!

I'm a pretty easy going guy whose into experiencing new things and extremely non judgemental. If you would like to hang out and help me get into all the fun just message me or email me at kienzan@gmail.com! I'll give u my number and stuff.

Heres what I look like

Welcome Nick.

Two places to go: City Club on Saturday nights. There are MANY people from here that go regularly. The other is Necto in Ann Arbor on Monday nights.

Dress in simple black and no one will even notice that you're a newbie...

Welcome Nick!

I think the other guys pretty much covered all the goth/industrial stuff going on in Detroit area right now.

Another great source of info for a lot of goings-on in Detroit & surrounding areas are the weekly (free) publications such as the "Metro Times" and "Real Detroit." These are not exclusive to goth stuff, but they publish a lot of other stuff like art openings, restaurant reviews, movies, etc. Good rags...pick 'em up all around the area. Fav store doesn't have it? Just ask where to get one. New issues come out every Wed.

Enjoy! :peanutbutterjellytime:

Hi! Welcome to the D. Looking forward to meeting you...

Hey just one more question. I am in no way a city person, I come from a small beach town. Anyway anyone could show me around the area and show me where the clubs/directions to navigate around the city area. I also would LOVE to know where the places not to go if you know what I mean

I would be forever in someone's debt for their help =D

Welcome to the party!

Hmmm... new to city life... Never show fear, don't step on anyone's toes. Pretty much par for the course. Making friends with bounty hunters or cops can be beneficial, too. :)

Also (if I remember correctly), last year's biggest party was the Necto Halloween event. I heard that it was waaaay bigger than the City Club event, but that was just the rumor of the night.

ORR...I can dress him and he will be noticed by ALL :whistle::tongue:

:welcome: I'm sure we'll meet when you're up here.

If you're looking for fashion advice...Msterbeau is correct simple black will do...with eyeliner, some hott boots, maybe a collar, spike your hair up a little, maybe paint yer nails black and then we'll be set! I kid, trust me some people don't even show up to CC "goth" at all, he's right, even if you wore just all black and didn't dress up at all you'd still fit in - but what's the fun in that? ;):p

Yes, yes, big Detroit tip: Never show fear. And always look your cracked-out assailant directly in the eyes to let him/her know who keeps it real 'round those parts.

I KID. So many people are "afraid" of Detroit, which is nonsence, I've been trolling around the most dangerous streets in this place doing all sorts of things since I was in high school. You just always need to know your surrounding and know how to act natural. So hell, I'm one of the people on here that can show ya the real Detroit, as opposed to just downtown/midtown and all the glitzy stuff. If you've never been to a big city, Detroit's an amazing pick, my favorite city in America. So I can take you on a tour away from glitzy glamourous downtown and show you all the badass creepy goth stuff the city has to offier (i.e. everything outside of downtown). I'm sure we'll get to it in your four month stay.

Do you know what city you'll be staying in exactly or are you actually going to be staying IN Detroit? (we have a lot of bigger suburb cities that surround Detroit, which is where most people live)

YES...YES I MUST AGREE.....Where is the fun in THAT?!

All black is not as fun as mostly black...you won't be noticed...you may get lost at the dance floor...(once, I took off my tye-dye, to dance, & my people lost me for over an hour {'cause I stopped glowing})

Anyhoozlez...look forward to meeting you Bro...be sure to tell us WHICH burb...so we know who can ride share with you...(these Goths are a little bit Hippie...& this hippie is VERY goth.)
