What would help is if they had "food only" check out lines.

also I will never buy any bulk food that is not individually wrapped, (candy and such)I have seen too many people eating out of the non wrapped bulk foods,(nuts,some candy)gross.

  This is the main problem I have with the holiday season and back to back observances: So many traditions coupled with so much expectation while trying to handle regular responsibilities together with holiday hosting. And you can't complain because regardless of how everything goes, that will be the only thing you are remembered for during the next holiday season for the following 3 years. Then you get a do over and remember to keep your mouth shut going forward.
